The Longmont Public Library is hiring! We are seeking a full-time Senior Library Technician to join our talented staff. In this role, you will help supervise shelvers and volunteers, assist patrons at the front (Circulation) desk, and answer questions ranging from locating materials to interpreting Library policies. You will also serve as the building supervisor during scheduled nights and weekends to help ensure the safety of Library staff and patrons. In addition to supporting daily operations, this role places a strong emphasis on training. You will be responsible for training shelvers to ensure Library materials are handled with care and shelved accurately. You will work closely with the Circulation Manager to create training plans, communicate shelving rules, and assist in refining shelvers' skillsets and processes. Additionally, 
you will oversee organizing volunteer activities, keeping track of volunteer hours, and helping connect volunteers with meaningful work in different areas of the Library. Definition: 
Performs responsible administrative and technical tasks in support of the Longmont Public Library services and functions specifically in Circulation including assisting in supervision of clerical employees and providing advanced and/or technical customer service. 


Principal Duties: 
• Ability to count change correctly; balance drawers as needed. 
• Act as building manager/supervisor on scheduled nights and weekends or when Department Heads or the Library Director are not available. 
• Assist and instruct patrons in the use of computer software programs and the internet. 
• Assist library patrons at a public desk in assigned department. Interview patrons by telephone or in person to determine needs and locate desired information or library materials using licensed databases, library materials, other reference tools, or contacts with other libraries. 
• Assist library patrons, recommending resources for purposes of education, information, or recreational reading. 
• Attend meetings and trainings as required. 
• Conduct searches using library databases, online catalog, or the library’s integrated library system (ILS). 
• Explain library and City policies as necessary for the safe and smooth operation of the library. 
• Independent judgement and discretion, skills in delegating and prioritizing workload, multi-tasking, excellent customer service skills, ability to communicate and work with a variety of individuals and work styles. 
• Maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public. Collaborate with other library staff to provide effective customer service. 
• May assist in conducting library tours and presenting programs to teens and adults. 
• Participate in and represent the library to citywide, regional, and or state committees. 
• Prepare library for opening and closing 
• Provide direct assistance to customers at the Circulation desk and the Help Desk, performing work of the Library Assistants. 
• Provide technical support to staff in Circulation and report modules of the library’s integrated library system (ILS) software. 
• Read and respond to emails from staff and patrons. 
• Respond to and resolve customer issues that may include library policy interpretation. 
• Assist the Circulation Manager in supervision of Shelvers and volunteers including the selection process, preparing work schedules, designing and conducting training, problem resolution, ensuring staff coverage, and performance evaluation. 
• Work with the Circulation Manager to ensure training objectives are met. Assist with training new hires in the Circulation Department. 
• Coordinate volunteers across all library departments, including planning, organizing, evaluating, and communicating with volunteers. 
• Recruit and train new volunteers. 
• Collaborate and communicate with library staff and City employees regarding volunteers. 
• Attend City of Longmont Volunteer Coordinator meetings. 
• Maintain and record volunteer statistics. 
• This position may have supervisory responsibilities and/or advanced technical skills. 


Working Environment: 
Work is in a standard library environment, which includes exposure to dust. Requires the ability to move around the building and to access materials on shelves. Work requires light lifting/carrying (up to 40 lbs.) standing, walking, bending/stooping, reaching, pushing/pulling, twisting, kneeling, and squatting, and sufficient visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment. Work requires repetitive motion to enter data on keyboard. Requires skill in working productively, independently as well as with a group. Effective communication with co-workers and public of diverse age, nationality, education, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Irregular work schedule required including days, evenings, Saturdays and Sundays. 


Qualifications: 
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university and two or more years of clerical and/or technical experience in a public library. General supervisory experience is desirable.
