Job Description

We're hiring a customer service oriented collaborator to be our Programming Librarian! You will help create the essential destination where residents can find just the service, program or material delivered in the way that fits them just right. Use your skills to initiate and develop programs and activities, including seasonal programs and programming kits. Your excellent customer service skills will help determine patron needs when developing and providing library instruction and patron education to the public. You will create a positive, inviting atmosphere for all patrons through professional support to Programming services.   • CUSTOMER SERVICE: Performs moderately to highly complex research activities related to Programming. Handles difficult questions referred by other Library employees. Refers patrons to community resources and/or other appropriate resources for further information as necessary. Uses high-level customer service skills to determine patron needs. Creates a positive, inviting atmosphere for all patrons. Provides access to resources, including the physical and digital resources of the system. Presents programs classes and workshops in the Library and at off-site locations. Promotes programs to target audiences. Develops and provides library instruction and patron education to the public, individually and in groups.
  • CORE LIBRARY SERVICES: Collaborates in cross-functional teams to accomplish goals and objectives. Routinely provides direct customer service. Creates access to Library resources both physical and digital. Helps to develop content which will be placed on website, social media outlets, content management systems and other means in this medium. Assists with evaluating programs and services. Collects and tabulates data. Prepares records and reports. Assists in promoting Library programs and serves as an expert. Identifies program needs. Maintains data pertaining to attendance and program participation. Communicates with program presenters, sponsors, and vendors. Coaches staff on program development and hosting.
  • DAILY OPERATIONS: Observes programs for quality.  Interacts with patrons and library staff during programs to inform additional and new program plans. Resolves problems as non-routine situations arise.
  • OVERSIGHT: May assist in assigning, training, mentoring, directing, and evaluating the activities of other staff. Ensures adherence to established policies, procedure and standards. Assists and advises other library staff as necessary. Provides guidance and support in daily operations to ancillary staff and volunteers.

Additional Info & Requirements

Preferred - Master's In Library Science or Library Information Systems

Preferred - One year of public library experience.
