Job Description

Garfield County Public Library District (District) is seeking a dynamic library professional to join our team as a Neighborhood Libraries Director. The Neighborhood Libraries Director will supervise our six Branch Managers and support the District's Executive Director in carrying out the strategic and operational objectives and goals of our Public Services Division.

This is a department director classification that oversees, directs, and participates in all activities of the District's physical libraries, including short- and long-range planning as well as development and administration of departmental policies, procedures, and services. This position provides assistance to the Executive Director in a variety of administrative, coordinative, analytical and liaison capacities. Successful performance of the work requires knowledge of public policy, District functions and activities, including the role of an elected Board of Trustees, and the ability to develop, oversee, and implement projects and programs in a variety of areas. Responsibilities include coordinating the activities of the department with those of other departments and outside agencies and managing and overseeing the complex and varied functions of the department. The incumbent is accountable for accomplishing departmental planning and operational goals and objectives, and for furthering District goals and objectives within general policy guidelines. The Neighborhood Libraries Director is expected to demonstrate a high standard for providing outstanding customer service to all District staff; maintains an excellent rapport with contractors and vendors; and treats all individuals within and outside the District with courtesy and respect at all times.

This is a full-time (minimum 40 hours per week), exempt position. The hiring range for the Neighborhood Libraries Director position is $52,000 - $66,560 annually (DOE); benefits include medical, dental, vision, and employer contribution to retirement fund; paid vacation, sick, and holidays.

This position requires:

  • Master of Library Science Degree (MLIS) from an American Association (ALA) accredited school
  • Five years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in library management, library administration, or a related field
