Description

The Englewood Public Library, located just south of the City of Denver, serves a diverse community of users. We are situated next to a light rail and RTD bus station. As a Security Library Associate you will work to maintain a safe and secure environment for library customers and staff and help to provide effective access to resources. This position is one of the first points of contact as patrons enter the library. The main responsibility of this position will be enforcing the Library’s Code of Conduct, making regular rounds throughout the library and securing points of entry, exits and interior areas at opening/closing. You will also help direct people to various areas of the library, answer basic questions, and enforce customer and staff compliance with general safety/security rules and regulations. Acting as a Security Library Associate, you will investigate disturbances in the library and adjacent lobby areas.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Has knowledge of safety hazards and how to manage them. Skill in securing buildings with several points of entry. Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information. Skill in enforcing customer and staff compliance with security rules and regulations and documenting and resolving conflicts.

Assists patrons in identifying, locating, and using library and information resources including print, non-print, and digital resources.  

Performs circulation functions. Includes creating patron accounts, issuing cards, checking materials in and out, maintaining patron database, and collecting fines.

Assists patrons in the use of library computers and personal devices in order to access information sources and digital materials and effectively utilize common applications. 

Assists in delivery of special services such as readers’ advisory, career assistance, technology training, or outreach to the community.

Assists with promotion and marketing of library materials, services, and programs, including display and merchandising of the collection.

May work with volunteers.

Performs other duties as assigned and required.

PREPARATION AND TRAINING

Education:      Bachelor’s Degree in any field required

Work Experience:      Two years of customer service experience; library and/or bookstore experience preferred and at least one year of experience working with security and safety issues.

Certifications and/or Licensures:        None

Required Driver’s License:    None

An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.

Computer Skills - Basic computer skills required for accurate data entry and records management.   Intermediate skills required to instruct patrons in the use of common software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, downloadables, and search engines. 

Communication Skills - Excellent communication skills required to provide an exceptional customer experience for library guests.  Also required to work in a team-oriented environment. 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in a standard library environment, requiring standing and walking for extended periods of time. Must be able to push and pull a full book cart (up to 20 lbs/force) and perform occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs).
