Job Description

Manages electronic resources acquisitions, setup, troubleshooting, licensing and access, providing the infrastructure for researchers to find and use e-resources; serve as the liaison librarian to assigned academic departments, developing strategies to actively engage with students and scholars during all phases of the research and discovery process.

Management/Leadership

  • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating the acquisition and cataloging of serial publications in all formats, and provision of local and off-campus access to these materials.
  • Coordinates the acquisition, payment, record keeping, fiscal control, technical compatibility, and upkeep of electronic resources, ensuring continuing access and quickly resolving access problems as they occur.
  • Maintains access to electronic resources through the maintenance of catalog records, a link resolver, and other utilities.
  • Primary liaison to database publishers and vendors. Monitors terms of electronic subscription agreements and assures vendor compliance and delivery of content.
  • Oversees the purchase, cataloging, check-in, preservation, cancellation and withdrawals of print serials.
  • Supervises periodicals processing and bindery operation.
  • Supervises Periodicals Coordinator position.
  • Develops expertise in serials management systems and cataloging modules, trains staff and implements new features.
  • Gathers data on usage, user satisfaction, and vendor performance for electronic resources. Establishes and documents departmental policies and procedures.
  • In collaboration with the Collections Librarian and the Metadata and Discovery Systems Librarian, works closely with acquisitions, cataloging and systems staff to ensure electronic resource availability and to implement control systems
  • In collaboration with the Collections Librarian, manage electronic books and streaming video licensing, acquisition and troubleshooting
  • Works in close collaboration with the Systems, Acquisitions, Cataloging departments and others in the library to assure efficient workflow and good communication on shared projects.
  • Serves as campus liaison to ICPSR.
  • Stays current with trends in serials, electronic access, and scholarly publishing.
  • Evaluate processes, staffing levels and activity and provide annual and as-needed reports.
  • Shares responsibility with the Collections Librarian for management of collection services and leadership of the Collection Development Group; makes recommendations relevant to his or her responsibilities.

Liaison, Instruction, and Research Services

  • Serve as the liaison librarian for assigned academic departments or programs, developing and refining services and strategies to actively engage with students and scholars through all phases of the research process, from early exploration to publication and archiving.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with library and campus partners in support of scholarship, discovery, learning, and student success across campus and in liaison departments.
  • Both independently and in collaboration with other liaison librarians, design, deliver and assess library instruction focused on teaching students to discover, create, and use information and knowledge with rigor and integrity. Provide library instruction for liaison departments and participate in instruction for first year (FYE) program.
  • Serve as one of a team of librarians providing research services and in-depth research consultations.
  • Develop collections supporting scholarly activities and teaching in liaison departments and contribute to overall collection development policies and decisions.

  • Promote a working environment and relationships with students and the campus community that reflects inclusion and respect for diversity and equitable practices.
  • Collaborate with other library personnel to create new antiracist programs and policies and support existing antiracist efforts in library collection-building and services.
  • Contribute to the profession and continue professional education through participation in relevant professional development opportunities, library organizations, and scholarly and creative pursuits.
  • Contribute to shared responsibilities for shaping library services and launching and sustaining initiatives through team and work group assignments.
  • Participate in the life of the college through committee and volunteer activities.
