Job Description

The Springfield (MA) City Library seeks applications to work at our forward-looking, award-winning public library.  We are recruiting talented, driven, community-engaged candidates for a part-time Reference Librarian. Please apply by Thursday, August 8, 2021, 11:59 pm Eastern.

The Reference Librarian position is based at our East Forest Park Branch Library and has the following responsibilities:  Responsible for providing reference and resource information and material and programs to the general public for the City of Springfield's Library Department. Responsible for assisting patrons to find and use library materials and technology; reader's advisory; and creating and delivering programs for people of all ages, but with an emphasis on teens. Work is performed in accordance with accepted practices and procedures in the field of library sciences related to reference and resource material with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent professional judgment under the general direction of the Branch Manager or Supervisor who reviews work through observation, reports, and conferences

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree with completion of an American Library Association accredited Master of Library Science preferred; current enrollees in an MLS-granting program may be considered as well
