Job Description
Background Info: The key role of this branch is to bring library services to at-risk children and to provide outreach to children between the ages of 0-5 years. Bringing positive change to children, family and schools in a diverse urban neighborhood is the focus of this branch. Duties and Responsibilities: Supervises the staff at the branch. Works with the staff to: Empower and motivate children, collaborate with educators and community groups, help students with homework and introduce them to the latest electronic resources. Design and provide engaging activities that help children develop their creativity, interests and reading skills. Work with a team of Senior Librarians and a Manager Guide to develop, design, and implement system-wide services. Provide extensive outreach to young children in a variety of settings. Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, staff, and administration. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of child development. Skill in providing outreach, programming and library service to children. Strong leadership skills and ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to select, train, motivate and supervise a small staff. Spanish language fluency is a definite plus.HR Info
