Provides direct customer service in order to connect patrons to appropriate resources, programs and services. Welcomes and offers assistance to patrons. Performs circulation functions.
This is a substitute position, so the hours vary. We typically have a handful of shifts available to pick up each week. This is a great opportunity for someone who’s looking to start out in libraries, or who has experience and wants to be able to pick up only those shifts that meet their limited availability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists patrons in identifying, locating, and using library and information resources including print, non-print, and digital resources.
Performs all circulation functions. Includes creating patron accounts, issuing cards, checking materials in and out, maintaining patron database, collecting fines, shelving and courier processes.
Assists patrons in the use of library computers and personal devices in order to access information sources and digital materials and effectively utilize common applications.
Assists in planning and delivery of programs, story times, and special services such as readers’ advisory, career assistance, technology training or outreach to the community.
Assists with promotion and marketing of library materials, services, and programs, including display and merchandising of the collection.
May work with volunteers.
Performs other duties as assigned and required.
PREPARATION AND TRAINING
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in any field required
Work Experience: 2 years of customer service experience; library and/or bookstore experience preferred.
Certifications and/or Licensures: None
Required Driver’s License: None
An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Basic knowledge of:
- Public library operations
- Reference interview techniques
- Customer Service standards
- Common and emerging personal technology applications
- MS Office Suite
- Standard office equipment including copiers and printers
Computer Skills - Basic computer skills required for accurate data entry and records management. Intermediate skills required to instruct patrons in the use of common software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, downloadables, and search engines.
Communication Skills - Excellent communication skills required to provide an exceptional customer experience for library guests. Also required to work in a team-oriented environment.
Hourly Rate: $17.64 – $24.66
