Job Description

Responsible for the physical and digital upkeep of the collection and spaces at Walsh Library, including coordinating and performing maintenance/usage in the bookstacks, building appearance, and analyzing space utilization to address needs. Works closely with other departments within Access Services (Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, and Reserves) as well as Cataloging to ensure that records are up to date, material is findable, and retrievable by Library of Congress numbers. This position also coordinates student employees for all of Access Services, including scheduling.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with other Access Services departments and Technical Services to ensure that the Integrated Library System and physical collections are up-to-date. Is responsible for maintaining multiple collections and Library of Congress call number organization within collections.
  • Oversees and participates in all shelving operations in Walsh Library and provides assistance for other branch libraries as necessary, including collection and measurements.
  • Works closely with other departments to plan and implement collection management projects.
  • Provides expertise in project management and leads teams of student employees (and staff as needed) for execution of these projects.
  • Coordinates student employee schedules and projects/project management of student employees to meet the Access Service needs of the library.
  • Assists with hiring and training for student employees.
  • Coordinates and assists with retrieval of patron-initiated and interlibrary loan requests at Walsh Library, as well as assisting Circulation as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years experience.
  • Some work in a library required.
  • Associate degree required.
  • Working knowledge of Library of Congress call number arrangement and integrated library systems required.
  • Working knowledge of Library of Congress call numbers/arrangements required. Microsoft Office suite skills required, plus experience scheduling/timekeeping and coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and propose/calculate stacks space shifts and recognize and report on building issues.
  • Very clear communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Knowledge of general computer/office functions.
  • Experience working with student workers.

Salary Grade:

  • Staff Union (Local 153) - SU18.0

Exempt/Nonexempt:

  • Non-exempt

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., walking/standing, pushing heavy book carts
