Loveland Public Library is looking to fill a 30 hour benefited position in its Adult Services Division. This position is responsible for customer service, assisting library staff with community focused programs and services, maintaining the Adult Services webpage, and compiling monthly statistics. The Assistant Librarian in Adult Services is responsible for providing a variety of services in the Adult Services Division including, but not limited to customer service, programming, technology instruction, and data reporting. Flexible schedule requires some evenings and weekend hours. This position reports to the Adult Services Division Manager.
The salary range for this position is $16.78- $23.51 per hour with a hiring range of $16.78 - $20.14, depending on qualifications and experience. 
Position will close to applicants on: 8/20/21 at 12:00 P.M. M.S.T.

This is a Part Time 30 hours per week position. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Searches for, locates, and retrieves information/materials to answer questions posed in person, by phone, and by email.
  • Explains to patrons the use of equipment and resources including the online catalog, databases, microfilm reader-printers, and copiers.
  • Provides support, training, and troubleshooting for the library’s online resources and downloadables as it relates to e-readers, tablets, and other mobile devices.
  • Compiles monthly reports using tools such as MS Excel and Tableau.
  • Assists Librarians with programming and outreach including monthly book discussion groups.
  • Processes and displays newspapers and magazines
  • Collaborate with Marketing to updates, and distributes department’s marketing material and Adult Services webpage(s).
  • Supports Librarians’ collection development
  • Provides education and support for the public and staff for library resources.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Creates book and special displays.
  • Manages tax forms, library handouts, and community materials.
  • Maintains the overall appearance and cleanliness of the Adult Services area by assisting Material Handlers with shelving, shelf reading, and picking up lay around items.
  • May coordinate and direct work of volunteers.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Provide strong customer service to customers of all ages and backgrounds. Positively inspire and energize customers about library services and materials. Incorporate equity, diversity and inclusion in all operations. Work collaboratively across teams and independently to complete tasks on time, and constructively problem solve. Perform job duties effectively during relaxed or stressed activity level within the department. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, web design, data collection and use best practices for use of electronic resources.  General knowledge of computer-based library systems.  Spanish language proficiency a plus.

Education and/or experience:

Associates Degree required, Bachelors Degree preferred.  Experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

One year of progressively responsible experience in libraries or a related field in addition to any experience used to satisfy the education requirement.

Experience providing customer service to diverse individuals and groups is preferred.

Must be able to use the following equipment: III LIS software; online databases, the Internet, mobile technology, PCs, microfilm reader-printers and scanner, photocopiers, fax, telephone, book carts, laminator, bar code reader

Working conditions and physical requirements:

Works in a dynamic public library environment in the Adult Services Division with extensive public contact. Must be able to visually scan library computer and staff screens and explain displayed information and direct customers to shelf locations. Must be able to position or move materials on varying height shelves and in file cabinets for extended periods of time. Must be able to move library carts weighing 50 pounds across a carpeted floor.  Flexible schedule requires some evenings and weekend hours.
