Description

The Prescott Valley Public Library is seeking a motivated, energetic Technical Services Librarian to join our dynamic team. Position Summary:

As a member of the Library’s team, under the supervision of the Library manager, this employee performs original and copy cataloging and classification of all library materials and oversees the continued maintenance of electronic resource records using current cataloging standards of local and Yavapai Library Network practices; and provides supervision and direction for support staff in the completion of their daily work.

Essential Position Duties:

  • Create original Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC) records and update OCLC records to add to the Library’s online catalog for all formats such as but not limited to books, periodicals, CD books, DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, and electronic resources
  • Construct call numbers by implementing current professional cataloging standards, tools, and resources, such as AACR2, RDA, LCSH, LCC, MARC21, in addition to local processing conventions
  • Manage the Library’s electronic resource and shelf-ready bibliographic records, including demonstrating an understanding of ILS load table functionality
  • Oversee the Acquisitions department’s ordering, receiving and processing of all materials, including ensuring data integrity of the acquisition module
  • Perform supervisory duties related to daily operations, employees, and activities in the division
  • Supervise Library’s interlibrary loan services
  • Orders and maintains inventory of cataloging supplies.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of trends in publishing and literature, educational and developmental needs, and the library profession through webinars, internal training, meetings, conferences, professional literature, and organizational memberships
  • Serve as the department’s representative on various committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

General Position Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association-accredited program with emphasis in cataloging
  • At least two years professional experience working in original and copy cataloging services, resulting in working knowledge of cataloging, processing, and mending of materials in all formats, books, DVDs, CDs, etc.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience.


Position Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of the latest cataloging standards, tools, and resources, such as AACR2, RDA, LCSH, LCC, MARC21, or other metadata schemes, and Dewey Decimal Classification, as well as Library processing conventions
  • Experience cataloging materials through a cataloging utility such as OCLC, in an integrated library system environment
  • Have a working knowledge of our Integrated Library System (Sirsi Dynix, CircIT client, Enterprise, and Aspen)
  • Knowledge of electronic resources management, including record acquisition and access
  • Working knowledge of library preservation practices and standards
  • Familiarity with standard software used in business applications such as Microsoft products, especially Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with current Web applications such as search engines, email interfaces, social media, and eBook and eAudio applications/commonly used devices
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, including the ability to perform multiple projects or tasks with frequent interruption
  • Ability to assign, supervise, and evaluate employee work to obtain established results
  • A commitment to public service and the ability to work well with a diverse patron base
  • Ability to resolve conflict rather than create it, and implement change rather than block it
  • Understanding of Library mission and roles, and the general role of public libraries within a community
  • Understanding of librarianship and its foundational documents, including the Library Bill of Rights, Code of Ethics, and the Freedom to Read Statement
