Job Description

Responsible for providing a variety of services in the Teen Division including, but not limited to customer service, programming, collection development, technology instruction and marketing. Flexible schedule requires some evening & weekend hours. This position reports to the Teen and Personnel Services Manager.
The salary range for this position is $22.07- $31.97 per hour with a hiring range of $22.07 - $27.02 , depending on qualifications and experience.

Loveland Public Library is looking to fill a 40 hour benefited position in its Teen Services Division. This position is responsible for supervising teen staff, coordinating teen and library-wide programming, creating web and social media content and working a busy public desk offering reference, reader’s advisory and maker technologies. Loveland Public Library, located in the heart of Loveland, serves a population of 77,000 from a beautiful LEED Gold Certified building. The recently remodeled and expanded facility was designed with art-inspired elements from the surrounding Rocky Mountains and Big Thompson River; local sculptors and multi-media artists are showcased in the central galleria. A large-capacity public computer lab, learning center and creator space welcome over 45,000 patrons each year. A rich array of programs and services including bilingual storytimes, writing workshops, cultural celebrations, a used bookstore, a whimsical children’s area and a YOUmedia lab for teens make Loveland Public Library a destination for locals and visitors alike. Partnerships with organizations serving diverse populations support the library’s mission to inform, inspire and engage a strong community through outreach, classes, afterschool programs, and technology access. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Relationship building, behavior support and customer service: including reference, reader’s advisory and technology assistance, for tweens and teens from diverse backgrounds.
  • Leadership of projects and staff including program planning, marketing, facilitation and evaluation.
  • Coordination of the Teen Advisory Board, Teen Lead, Teen Volunteer and Summer Learning programs.
  • Establishment and maintenance of the library website and social media.
  • Collection development including selection, purchasing, mending and weeding of the teen collection.
  • Maintenance of the overall organization, appearance and cleanliness of the division including but not limited to shelving materials, shelf reading, placing books on display, shifting within stacks.
  • Scheduling, budget tracking and reporting in support of the Division Manager.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Service on library, city and community committees in support of teen services. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

This position is responsible for supervision of City employee(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

Ability to relate to and guide tweens and teens. Ability to perform job duties effectively during relaxed and stressed activity levels within the department. Excellent oral and written communication skills. General knowledge of computer-based library systems, Microsoft Office, web and maker technologies. Ability to positively inspire and energize patrons of all ages about library services and materials. Ability to learn new task skills on the job. Ability to work independently, complete tasks on time and constructively problem solve. Knowledge of Young Adult literature and popular culture. Spanish language proficiency a plus.

Education and/or experience:

Two years of college coursework plus two years of experience or a Bachelors Degree in required, Masters Degree in Library Science or related field such as public administration, education, or social work preferred.

2 years professional and progressively responsible library experience required.  This is in addition to any years used to satisfy the education requirement.

1 year supervisory experience including hiring, discipline, performance management and evaluation of paid staff required.  1 year of leadership experience including project management, staff development and problem solving preferred.

Experience overseeing customer service to diverse individuals and groups is required.

Library computer, public catalog and staff terminals; PCs, LCD screens, Gaming Systems, e-Readers, iPads, robotics, 3D printer, laser cutter, sewing machine, Smart Boards, printers, telephone, fax, photocopier, laminator, paper cutter, DVD & monitor, ladders, library carts, library materials (books, media, etc.).

Working conditions and physical requirements:

Works in a dynamic public library environment in the Teen Services Division with extensive public contact. Must be able to visually scan library computer and staff screens and explain displayed information and direct customers to shelf locations. Must be able to position or move materials on varying height shelves and in file cabinets for extended periods of time. Must be able to move library carts weighing 50 pounds across a carpeted floor. Flexible schedule requires some evening and weekend hours.
