Head of Information and Technology

Wages: $52,000-$54,000 (Commensurate with experience)

Location: North Providence, RI

Hours: 35.00/week

MLIS Required

Minimum Education: Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies

Library Experience: Required 5+ years

The Mayor Salvatore Mancini Union Free Library Board of Trustees seeks an innovative, energetic, and community focused Head of Information and Technology to lead the library into a bright future.   The candidate will successfully deliver information through a variety of channels, including online databases and instructional classes.  They will seek out new and exciting technology to deliver exemplary programs for our library.

Qualifications:  M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. degree from an accredited American Library Association institute of graduate studies is required. Three years of experience in public library management is required. One to three years in a technology role is preferred.

The qualified candidate will: 

  • Lead their team to create, coordinate, and present library programs, special events, and outreach to the community.
  • Train their team and other library staff in the latest technologies to provide high quality programs.
  • Collaborate with the Youth Services Department and Circulation team to build meaningful services for all ages.
  • Provide technology instruction classes for the public as well as updating content for the website and social media presence.
  • Troubleshoot computer and technology issues in each department as needed.
  • Act as liaison to the Town’s Communication Director and Ocean State Libraries for Technology assistance as needed.
  • Collaborate with other state libraries and vendors as needed.
  • Research and implement new trends in libraries.
  • Provide reader’s advisory and research assistance for patrons.
  • Maintain library statistics where applicable.
  • Build and maintain department staff schedule monthly and as changes occur.
  • Be willing to work as needed to cover the department in the event of staff shortages.
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed.

  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational skills.
  • Comfortable working with and learning new technologies.
  • Ability to train and supervise library staff.
  • Creativity and flexibility.
  • Work in a diverse environment.
  • Knowledge of automated library systems, Sierra, and databases.

The North Providence Union Free Library, a member of Ocean State Libraries, is an independent non-profit library servicing North Providence and nearby communities. The Library serves a town with a population of 34,000.  New businesses are opening and the opportunity to build and expand is on trend. The Library is situated next to the North Providence High School and is attached to Town Fitness Center and Pool.
