Job Description

Position Summary: This position supports the Director and Associate Director in providing public service to library users in the Nathaniel P. Hill Library at St. George’s School in Middletown, RI. This position is also responsible for various day-to-day operations and technical services tasks in support of circulation and collection maintenance functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide circulation, basic reference and public service to library users.
  • Basic troubleshooting of printer/copier/scanner and computers.
  • Process interlibrary loan materials.
  • Process new materials, including books, DVDs, magazines, etc.
  • Contribute to circulation and stack maintenance projects
  • Collaborate with the Director and Associate Director on special projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Monday holiday shifts required.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • Must be reliable.
  • Strong service orientation and the ability to multitask with an upbeat demeanor.
  • Strong computer skills, including a working knowledge of automated circulation systems, electronic databases, and web-based resources.
  • Commitment to customer service including a demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students and faculty, staff and community members.
  • Ability to work efficiently, both independently and collaboratively in a busy team-based environment.
  • Outstanding organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to embrace the challenges of working in a boarding school environment.
  • Candidate must pass a nationwide criminal background record check.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a school environment, preferably with adolescents.
  • Experience working in a library. Bachelors’ degree.
  • MLS candidates will be given favorable consideration.

Schedule:
19 hours. Likely schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Fridays 6 p.m. - 10 p.m., and Sundays 12-5 p.m. Monday holiday shifts required. Some flexibility in scheduling is required. This is a 10-month, academic year position with holiday and spring breaks.

Physical Requirements:
Working in an office and school environment.  The abilities to occasionally lift files and boxes, walk up and down stairs, attend meetings in varying locations throughout campus, and use computers and related office equipment are required.  Not all buildings on campus have elevators.
