Job Description
The Lafayette Public Library is hiring a Managing Librarian for our Technical Services division. This position will support positive customer experiences through oversight of cataloging and processing materials in all formats using the Sierra Integrated Library System. Serving as a member of the Library’s Management Team, the Technical Services Manager is responsible for providing effective, coordinated and strategically aware leadership, supporting and facilitating Library operations and fostering a culture of continual improvement among staff.

Essential Functions
- Review, develop and implement cataloging policies and procedures in collaboration with other staff and members of the Flatirons Library Consortium
- Performs original cataloging and coordinates workflows for copy cataloging and materials processing
- Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures for the Technical Services division
- Serve as the in-house expert/lead on cataloging practices and policies and the Sierra integrated library system
- Works with current and new vendors on acquisitions and outsourced cataloging by setting up new accounts, testing processes, bib imports, and reviews record quality
- Understands concepts behind e-resource management systems and maintains awareness of vendors and available products
- Understands e-resource licensing and issues such as copyright and fair use, and seeks to negotiate licensing terms favorable to the Library
- Develops and evaluates budget areas in alignment with the Library’s objectives
- Leads employees to deliver effective high-quality service through processes that improve quality and quantity of cataloging
- Supervise and schedule cataloging and processing team of six part-time paraprofessional employees as well as community volunteers ages teen to adult.
- Develops, evaluates, and oversees budgets in alignment with the Library’s priorities.
- Provides excellent customer service and maintains a courteous, positive image of the Library when interacting with customers and staff; works at service points providing information, technology support, reference services, and reader's advisory services; answers questions regarding Library policies, procedures, and records; and maintains customer and staff confidentiality.
- As a member of the Collection Development Team, evaluates, recommends, and selects materials for the Library's collections; helps to maintain collections through weeding and rotation of materials.
- Serves as person-in-charge of the Library facility.
- Keeps current on library trends and technology.
- Participates in Library and/or City work committees and teams, as assigned.
- Serves as a member of the Library Management Team and uses leadership skills to provide vision and guidance to library staff while contributing effective strategies and workplans for library services.
- Tracks and interprets metrics for measurable outcomes of collection usage and provides regular reports on collection usage to the Collection Development Team.
- Prioritizes the end user by balancing high quality cataloging with quick turnaround of materials
- Plans, organizes, and directs the ordering, cataloging, and processing of library materials
