Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape our newest location of the Denver Public Library through the development and implementation of a co-located, creative-focused branch model with our values of Connection, Curiosity, Equity, Stewardship and Welcoming in action.

What You'd Do

  • Support other library functions as needed.
  • Fosters relationships and networks with colleagues throughout DPL
  • Appreciate colleagues’ strengths and contributions 
  • Contributes to a resilient and flexible team by demonstrating the link between contributions and the larger objectives of the library
  • Act as a Person in Charge  while branch supervisors are not available.
  • May cover sick calls or other emergency clerk needs.
  • Design engaging displays and participate in merchandising of the entire collection.
  • Participate in relevant library committee work by leading meetings or contributing as a member
  • Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, staff and administration.
  • Lead collection maintenance activities. 
  • Participate in establishing a new branch
  • Collaborates with colleagues to ensure high-quality customer service, programming and outreach.
  • Cover public service desk to assist customers with questions, provide resources, provide advisory and help navigate technology.
  • Public facing 75% of time
  • Demonstrates superior trauma-informed customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity
  • Share passion for the Denver Public Library and librarianship

What You Have:

  • A Master's in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or plans to receive one within 90 days of hire.
  • Valid proof of full COVID vaccination.
  • Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with customers, staff and the community. 
  • Demonstrate a commitment to developing and maintaining a welcoming environment for young people, including babies, toddlers, preschoolers, grade schoolers, and teens.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, cultural sensitivity and sense of humor in working with customers of all ages and backgrounds, coworkers and community.

  • Capability to provide equitable and empathetic customer service drawn from lived experiences and knowledge of EDI concepts and practices.
  • Ability to translate demographic and other information in order to understand the surrounding community

The Community

Become a Librarian at Denver Public Library’s newest branch, Art Park, in the Five Points Neighborhood part of the RiNo Arts District and along the Platte River Trail.  The park buildings and our partner non-profits,  Redline Art Gallery and Focus Points, will serve as an equitable and public community hub that celebrates art, innovation, education, small business, and community empowerment for the surrounding neighborhoods. This location will welcome all community members customers to use the collection, community spaces,  and technology. The Denver Zine Library will be housed for at least one year on the 2nd level. There are four community rooms for small and large groups. Collaborating daily with our ArtPark partners and other community organizations through proximity and strong outreach.
