• Provide reference assistance to customers in the Adult Information and Reference areas.
• Provide administrative and/or technical tasks in support of Library functions.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).

• Provides increasingly complex direct public services to customers in person, on the telephone, or in a virtual environment in both English and Spanish.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule. At least one evening a week and rotating weekends. Our regular hours are M-Th 9-8, F-Sat 9-5, Sun 1-5.
• Provides technology support to customers on equipment and software including but not limited to Libby, research databases, etc.
• Performs advanced reference assistance and readers’ advisory services
• Completes Interlibrary Loan requests.
• Proficient in the use of library software for our catalog (the Library uses Sierra), study room reservations, Discovery passes, Library of Things, etc.
• Engages in community outreach and programming to expand visibility and partnerships with the library.
• Plans, creates, host, and delivers programs.
• Assists in maintaining the collection of media, magazines, newspapers, etc., both physical and virtual collections.
• Assumes responsibility for safe and effective daily operation of the library in the absence of a supervisor; ensures that security and safety reports are completed accurately and submitted as required.
• Work with other staff and volunteers in area of assignment including assigning routine duties, providing instruction, and assisting in the Library’s training process.
• Keeps informed about Library and department information.
• Attends regular department meetings and scheduled staff meetings.
• Participate in continuing education and training. Every city employee is required to complete both city and job specific-training each year. In addition, the Library encourages staff to pursue opportunities for professional development.
• May translate information into Spanish for promotional materials.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university and two or more years of clerical and/or technical experience in a public library or area related to specific assignment. Special Qualifications: Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency required.
The proficiency level expectation is: Intermediate to Advanced
Performance at this level requires advanced customer service skills, knowledge of library operations, and sufficient knowledge to provide competent reference assistance.
Complex computer technology, computers, microfilm machines, and other standard library equipment.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work is done in a standard library environment, which includes exposure to dust. Work requires standing, walking, bending and stooping, use of hands to make repetitive grasping motions, light lifting, pushing and pulling of book carts, and sufficient vision to clearly read book labels. May require climbing at least two steps on a ladder or step stool and reaching above shoulder level. Work requires repetitive motion to enter data on keyboard. Irregular work schedule required including days, evenings, rotating weekends. Work frequently involves confidentiality, reasoning, problem solving, and attention to detail.
