Job Description
The Library Director plans, organizes and leads the activities and staff of the Longmont Public Library. Services included in our full-service library management system are: circulation, children and teen services, adult services, and technical services. The Library Director is responsible for long-range and operational planning; budget development and management; staff development; performance measurements; ensuring high quality customer service; establishing and maintaining effective work, professional, and community relationships; and general oversight of program and facility operations.

The Longmont Public Library has an annual budget of $3 million and employs 39.45 FTEs. Its collection size is 295,000 volumes. The Longmont Public Library enjoys strong support from its “Friends of the Library,” which helps fund special programs, events and/or equipment.
Longmont residents consistently rate the quality of services provided at the Longmont Public Library in the top three of all City services measured.

Longmont was named one of the “Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S.” by Money Magazine in 2006 and again in 2008. It was also named an “All America City” in 2006. It has one of the highest concentrations of software-related jobs in the nation. It is 45 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park, 36 miles from Denver, and 15 miles from Boulder.
