Job Description
The Hope Library Board of Trustees seeks a self-directed, customer-focused, forward-thinking individual who is passionate about libraries, its patrons and their role in small communities to serve as Library Director. Working under the direction of the Board of Trustees this individual will work to meet the information and library needs of all patrons; directing, training and supervising staff for optimum service. In addition, will expand onsite and virtual programming, revitalize our patron base while providing traditional core library services to the Village of Hope and its’ surrounding communities.
Outline of duties
-Grant writing and fundraising skills
-Excellent planning and organizational skills
-Directs and oversees programming and public relations, including all social media accounts, and the library’s website
-Ability to coordinate building maintenance
-Working knowledge of computerization and appropriate library applications
-Works closely with the Board of Trustee and attends monthly meetings
-Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work and management and organization of library operations including collection development.
-Is responsible for long-range planning, financial management, budget preparation and development of recommendations for library policies and procedures.
-Prepares various kinds of statistical reports on finances, circulating stock, computer usage and circulation.
-Attend all applicable state (OLIS) and consortium (OSL) meetings.

Supervisory experience in a library setting is preferred.

The Community
Hope is an historic mill village in the town of Scituate, RI. It was the home of Hope Furnace, which forged cannons during the Revolutionary War. The village includes many historic houses built for the mill supervisors and workers. Hope Library is located across from the Hope Elementary School. Due to its location, the library also provides service for 3 local surrounding communities, in addition to the Hope community.
The population of Scituate is 10,730 per the 2020 census data. The town is served by two public libraries, one in North Scituate and one in Hope. Both libraries are owned by individual library associations and are 501(c)3, non-profit organizations.
