Job Description

The Denver Public Library (DPL) is a growing urban library system that serves the City & County of Denver. DPL sees more than 4 million visitors every year across its 27 locations, serves Denver’s most vulnerable communities through outreach and mobile services, hosts thousands of programs a year and manages a collection of more than 1.4 million physical and digital materials. The Montbello Library is a medium-sized branch that provides services to a diverse community in Northeast Denver. We are a full-service library committed to offering services that demonstrate the library’s values of Welcoming, Curiosity, Connection, Equity and Stewardship in action. We are a tight-knit staff who support one another. We strive to meet the individual needs of each customer, connecting with them on a personal level and creating a positive experience for both external and internal customers. The person in this role will use their excellent customer service skills to create inviting and supportive experiences for library customers of all ages and backgrounds, working together with our community partners to connect people with resources in our service area.

Denver Public Library staff strive to provide an engaging space for teens to receive developmentally-appropriate support to create, collaborate, learn, access library materials and attend workshops and programs.
DPL is seeking a creative, enthusiastic and experienced Librarian for Teen Services at our Montbello Branch location. This position performs the basic professional duties involved in providing general reference and reader’s advisory services to the public, with a specific emphasis on programs and services to grades 6-12. They will collaborate with staff across the system to grow opportunities for youth that reflect their interests, respond to their needs and meet them where they are. This position will support Early Literacy initiatives by assisting with programs, storytimes, Little University and other youth programming when the need arises. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Skill in building relationships, advocating, enhancing relationships and exploring ways to amplify and incorporate the voices and ideas of youth customers in grades 6-12.
  • Knowledge of information needs, collection maintenance and reader/media advisory for all ages.
  • Knowledge of positive youth development practices, library services for youth ages 13-18 and Young Adult literature.
  • Spanish language fluency (preferred, not required).

  • Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program (or plans to receive one within 90 days of hire).

Benefits & Additional Compensation Info

The full City and County of Denver benefits package will be offered. Though the full salary range is provided, we anticipate offers will fall between $48,633 - $56,536 per year.

Additional Info & Requirements

  • This position could be reassigned temporarily or permanently to another branch based on system wide staffing needs.
  • The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include weekend and evening hours. The branch is open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays.
  • City Employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. All persons offered a position will be required to provide valid proof of vaccination prior to starting employment.
