Job Description

This internship position will provide library reference services for locating information and documents utilizing the appropriate technology and resources. This position will shelve materials, maintain the organization of the collection, and maintain orderliness of public areas, collaborate with other staff to resolve circulation related issues as needed and assists in creating a positive environment.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES for the Library Intern include the following but not limited to:

Patron Services
Focused customer service that includes:

  • face-to-face interactions at the Library's Reference Desk (when not working remotely);
  • provide virtual interations with clients, monitor; and
  • provide timely responses via the Library's internal communication channels to help manage project in-take

Collection Development

  • Serve as a central repository for DOT research results and technical publications;
  • Acquire, preserve and manage new and existing books, documents, serials, and other library materials.

Outreach

  • Collaboratively assist with special projects such as web design and library marketing and communications;
  • Publicize, facilitate and promote access to information products and services;
  • Assist with library marketing i.e. Libguides, Daily Broadcast, library presentations to groups;
  • Develop, design, and edit the CDOT library website

Cataloging

  • Responsible for cataloging materials for the library;
  • Inputs data about materials into electronic catalog to ensure users can locate books, serials, manuals, or other documents;
  • Organize materials according to highest priority.and organize large backlogs of materials;
  • Prepares bibliographic and item records for monographs, journals and other library material.

In addition to a fantastic place to work, CDOT offers all Interns (temporary employees) paid sick leave. Temporary employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, capped at forty-eight 48 hours.

Additional Info & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Any college student enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university seeking an Associates, Bachelor's, Masters or Ph.D degree.   A copy of your transcript must be submitted with your application.  

OR

  • A recent college graduate.  Recently graduated means the individual should have attended an accredited college or university and have graduated with an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D degree within three calendar years. A copy of your transcript must be submitted with your application.  

OR

  • A certified participant in the Colorado Refugee Services Program
