NATURE OF WORK

The Electronic Resources Librarian manages the access to, maintenance, and preservation of information resources in electronic format.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

This position reports to the Head of Collection Management.

FACULTY STATUS

Strauss Health Sciences Library faculty members serve as non-tenure track faculty. The Electronic Resources Librarian is appointed at the Instructor, Senior Instructor or Assistant Professor level, commensurate with professional and relevant experience.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Electronic Resources Librarian is expected to assume personal responsibility for designing and implementing a plan for continuing professional development and to actively contribute to the development of health sciences librarianship through scholarly and service activities.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for managing electronic resources held by the library.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Act as the point person for monitoring and troubleshooting access issues for the library’s electronic resources
  • Communicate with vendors of library resources on behalf of the library about problems with resources or technical questions
  • Work with the library IT Department to resolve access problems for electronic resources
  • Maintain electronic resources management system (Alma) which details vendor contacts, consortium agreements, usage statistics, licensing terms, and other account and subscription information
  • Maintain the Library’s A-Z database list via LibGuides
  • Manage the EZProxy config file for off-campus access
  • In collaboration with other library staff, improve and enhance functioning of library’s discovery layer (Primo)
  • Collaborate with other library staff in developing assessment strategies and examining quantitative and qualitative use data for electronic resources
  • Solicit, maintain and distribute electronic resource usage statistics for hospitals served by the library
  • Stay current with emerging trends, resources, practices and standards in electronic resource management, usage statistics, access and discovery
  • Maintain documentation of policies and procedures pertaining to all aspects of the position
  • Contribute to campus and library’s advancement of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility
  • Participate in library-wide activities, such as serving on library committees and task forces
  • Participate in cross-campus activities, such as serving on committees and task forces
  • Participate in professional development and service activities

Salary and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:

               Instructor-$50,000-$58,000

               Senior Instructor-$56,000-$61,000

               Assistant Professor-$59,000-$66,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Instructor

  • Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library school or international equivalent, Degree in hand by June 30, 2022.
  • Zero to two years experience working in a health sciences, academic, research life sciences, or related-field special library.
  • Experience and/or course work with library electronic resources (e.g., cataloging, managing subscriptions, troubleshooting access issues, etc.)
  • Experience working with an integrated library management system

Senior Instructor

  • Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library school or international equivalent
  • Two to five years experience working in a health sciences, academic, research life sciences, or related-field special library.
  • Experience and/or course work with library electronic resources (e.g., cataloging, managing subscriptions, troubleshooting access issues, etc.)
  • Experience working with an integrated library management system

Assistant Professor

  • Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library school or international equivalent
  • Five plus years experience working in a health sciences, academic, research life sciences, or related-field special library.
  • Experience and/or course work with library electronic resources (e.g., cataloging, managing subscriptions, troubleshooting access issues, etc.)
  • Experience working with an integrated library management system

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in managing library electronic resources
  • Experience with an electronic resource management system such as Alma/Primo
  • Knowledge and/or experience with electronic resource tools, standards and initiatives, such as Open URL, SUSHI, and COUNTER
  • Experience managing EZProxy stanzas
  • Knowledge and/or experience with collection assessment
  • Experience working in a health sciences library or academic library
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong evidence of initiative, flexibility, attention to detail, high productivity, and creativity
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on teams both internal and external to the library
  • Commitment to a user service orientation and to working collegially with other library faculty and staff
  • Experience in advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
  • Experience with project management
