Job Description
The Cumberland Public Library is seeking a Part-time Reference Assistant. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual seeking employment in a growing and innovative public library. The successful candidate will be comfortable with a variety of digital devices, as well as computers, social media, online searching, books, literature and web resources. Candidates must have the ability to communicate effectively and maintain good working relationships with staff and the public.
This is a 15 hour per week para-professional position under the supervision of the Reference Services Coordinator. Knowledge of library practices, techniques and materials is a plus. Candidates must have experience with Microsoft Windows and MS Office, be able to follow written/oral instructions and work independently.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree preferred, excellent computer skills, and good customer relations skills. Library Science courses or library experience a plus.
Hours: Part-time position. Approximately 15 hours per week, including two evenings and every other Friday/Saturday. Sunday afternoons at premium rates.
Salary: $17.03 hourly to start

The Community
The Cumberland Public Library is a department of the Town of Cumberland. It is a suburban area of about 34,000 residents, close to the capital of Providence, RI and an hour ride to Boston. The Library is situated in a former Monastery on 500 acres of parkland. The 55,000 square foot Library draws patrons from northern RI and nearby Massachusetts. Besides a Children's, Adult and Teen Centers, the Library also has seven meeting rooms for programs and local community groups. The Library has both traditional and tech savvy patrons and the staff produce innovative programs.
