POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title: Library Assistant (Adult and Children’s Circulation)
Summary: Library Assistants are responsible for circulation services of the library. This is a para-professional part-time position. Scheduling includes days, evenings and rotating Saturdays. Excellent customer services skills and the ability to perform duties effectively are required.
The position is under the direct supervision of the Director.
Circulation Duties:
1. Performing circulation activities such as checking materials in and out to patrons, renewing materials, answering telephone, registering new patrons, preparing the delivery; placing holds, shelving materials and keeping the shelves in good order
2. Assisting patrons when necessary
3. Being aware of library policies and ensuring policies are followed.
4. Assisting patrons with basic reference questions, computer problems and simple directional questions.
5. Being responsible for activities and duties relative to opening and closing the library.
6. Some book processing duties Process all new materials following library practices
7. Additional clerical task as needed.

1. Exercise sufficient judgment to perform the job.
2. Perform the job without disrupting the work of others.
3. Perform the job satisfactorily under the stressors of the position.
4. Communicate easily and effectively in group and individual situations utilizing oral and written communication skills.
5. Perform the job in a reasonable time and in a manner, achieves reasonable performance and quality standards.

Benefits & Additional Compensation Info
This is a part-time substitute position. One Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm is required. Additional hours may be available in the future.

Qualifications:
1. Enjoy books and reading
2. High School diploma.
3. Keyboarding skills.
4. Attention to detail
5. Competent and up to date computer skills including: word processing; inputting and manipulating data in an automated library system; use of library automated system circulation and public catalog functions.
6. Library and organization skill necessary to order, receive and maintain materials for the library collections.
7. Demonstrated excellent public relations ability with all ages is required.
8. Good work ethic: punctuality in reporting for work, and good organizational skills
9. Accurate with money
