 The hiring rate for this position is $12.50/ hourly

This is a substitute non-benefited position to work variable hours, including weekdays, evenings and weekends. This position serves as part of a substitute pool and allows for flexible scheduling. This position may work at any of our Aurora Public Library locations.

 The Library and Cultural Services Departments vision is to empower an environment of lifelong learning and cultural enrichment by stimulating learning and literacy, inspiring creativity, and integrating arts, culture and history into the lives of Aurorans.  We have two divisions within the department: Library and Cultural Services, both offering a variety of free programs and services to the community.

Position Overview
The City of Aurora is seeking an energetic Library Aide II to provide the highest level of customer service. This is a part-time, non-benefited position providing library customer service and opening and closing duties in an independent work environment. The individual will also be responsible for conducting basic library materials processing and handling duties.


The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come-first serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform general library services to library customers in person or by phone
  • Assists customers with materials check in, check out and other basic materials processing through computerized systems
  • Monitors customer computer usage, hold shelves and customer activity at small computer center locations
  • Answers basic customer questions and provides basic computer usage support to customers
  • Shelves library materials depending upon the specific facility assigned
  • May refer more complex customer help needs to full service locations and/or higher level library staff at those locations through on-site phone contact
  • May work at various locations, but mainly at the Hoffman branch
  • Will perform additional duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Education:

High School diploma or GED

Experience:

At least 6 months of research and clerical experience including telephone and customer service experience. 

Library background a plus.

Knowledge:  

Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email and internet navigation)

Abilities:  

Able to work alone and be reliable in a self-supervised environment.  

Ability to provide high quality customer service for customers and work effectively with fellow employees 

Use general office equipment including computers

Perform basic mathematical calculations

Available to work part-time hours during days, evenings and weekend.  

Ability to have transportation to work at other locations or split shifts among locations when staffing  is needs

Skills:

Skill in the use of personal computers and related software; keyboarding skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel:

  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

  • Primarily sedentary physical work requiring the ability to lift 30 pounds with or without assistance
  • occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
  • frequent hand/eye coordination to operate office equipment; vision for reading, recording, and interpreting information
  • frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens

Work Environment:

Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment.

Equipment Used:
 

  • Frequently uses standard office equipment and computer software,  may use city vehicles as needed.
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
