Job Description

Garfield County Public Library District (GCPLD) is expanding - more services, programs, and events; longer open hours; and more awesome people who want to join our team!

Our Parachute Branch Library is searching for those unique individuals who enjoy public service and want to contribute to a dedicated team to join us as part-time Library Specialists who work 24 hours per week.

Our Library Specialists deliver excellent service to the public in all the major areas of public libraries - providing reliable and courteous service while on the information desk, helping customers find just the right item, assisting with all kinds of technology, connecting people with community resources, planning and hosting engaging events for all ages, designing eye-catching displays, and more!

The pay rate for the part-time Library Specialist position is $17.03/hour; with paid holidays, sick time, and vacation time.

Examples of Core Role Responsibilities

  • Assists patrons with circulation needs; answers telephone inquiries regarding library services and programs; directs patrons to requested locations within the library; checks library materials in and out; assists with renewal of books and materials; issues library cards; processes payments; prepares overdue item reports; answers reference questions; assists patrons with locating books and materials; provides reference interviews and Reader Advisory services.
  • Provides technology assistance for patrons logging into public computers and utilizing related equipment including printers, scanners, copiers, and fax machines; assists patrons with other online devices and programs.
  • Assists and participates in special events including fundraising events, summer reading program, concerts, book clubs, and library promotion and outreach activities held at local venues
  • Participates in constructing library displays
  • Shelves books and materials
  • Assists with and performs library opening and closing procedures
  • Promotes library programs, services, and resources; assists in preparation of materials to publicize library events and services; advocates for the library, both at the information desk and in the community; interacts with the public at offsite events, and at local venues; builds relationships with members of the community and outside stakeholders to ensure the library is expanding its connections in the community.
  • Creates positive experiences for library customers
  • Participates in library committees and special projects as needed.
  • Purchases new books, replacements, and patron requests as directed; processes and catalogs new books and places call numbers and spine labels as directed; resurfaces worn DVD's or other digital discs.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of patrons within the building; handles emergency situations and upholds the Library Code of Conduct.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience providing clerical work or customer service including experience with technology systems such as Microsoft Suite, Apple products, and web browsers.
