Job Description

The Digital Scholarship Librarian is responsible for coordinating and executing planning in the Digital Scholarship Center and is an exciting opportunity for a flexible self-starter to design and implement new digital scholarship projects, tools, competencies, and services for undergraduate, graduate, and faculty researchers at the University of Wyoming. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Lead adoption and implementation of digital scholarly tools, methods, applications, and training in the DSC for faculty, students, and staff.  Examples include but are not limited to software carpentries, textual analysis, NLP, machine learning, deep learning, R, Python, OCR engines, data visualization tools
  • Develop partnerships with UW departments and faculty to support digital scholarship methods and tools
  • Collaborate closely with library and university faculty and departments to identify opportunities for digital scholarship
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute digital scholarship workshops for students, faculty, and staff in the DSC with the assistance of Digital Collections staff
  • Coordinate with library systems staff, university IT, and UW’s Advanced Research & Computing Center (ARCC) to support digital applications and tools related to student and/or faculty scholarship
  • Develop and implement training for librarians and staff on open & digital scholarship, including outreach to Wyoming community college librarians and administrators

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to establish positive and productive collaboration working with diverse audiences and colleagues throughout the library and beyond
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital scholarship methods, tools, and resources
  • Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for digital scholarship and its application across diverse subject disciplines
  • Willingness to learn new technologies both independently and in team settings
  • Commitment to continued growth in areas of responsibility independently and in team settings

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS*: 

  • Experience supporting faculty and students with scholarly consultation services
  • Experience providing instruction, research consultation services, and/or workshops to faculty, students, and staff in an academic setting
  • Supervisory experience
  • Working experience with and/or teaching one or more of the following: software carpentries, textual analysis, NLP, machine learning, deep learning, Perl, R, Python, OCR engines, data visualization tools, Git
  • Experience with content publishing and hosting platforms (e.g., Open Journal Systems, DSpace, Islandora, Figshare)
  • Experience with high performance computing environments, systems, and applications
  • Demonstrated research interest and scholarly activity in the field
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
