Job Description

The MBLWHOI Library seeks a Scholarly Communications Librarian. The successful candidate will build relationships and collaborations with other administrative and research departments in Woods Hole to support the progress and impact of various Woods Hole initiatives.   

The Scholarly Communication Librarian works with researchers and administrative departments to facilitate understanding, assessment, and reporting of impactful outcomes of research.  

Responsibilities also include collaborating with librarians to design and implement web-based tools and resources to support research information management, instruction and reference services, collection digitization, bibliographic discovery, and open access initiatives.  
 


 

The MBLWHOI  Library is operated jointly by the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution(WHOI) and provides information resource services to four affiliate organizations, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center, the Sea Education Association (SEA), the Woodwell Climate Research Center , and NOAA,Northeast Fisheries Science Center Woods Hole. The  Library is dedicated to advancing scholarship and education in the Woods Hole Scientific Community through Library services, innovative research, collaborations and informatics tools.The Library works collaboratively with partners around the world to provide access to scientific information for the creation of new knowledge through collections, resource sharing, preservation, and the development and implementation of new technologies.



 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in information/library science or at least 5 years’ experience in a library or information services.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize information from a variety of sources, apply critical and creative thinking to develop solutions to complex problems with the ability to shift priorities and adhere to deadlines.
  • Interest in research impact, bibliometrics, altmetrics, and relevant related resources, knowledge of and experience with multiple bibliographic and citation databases (Symplectic Elements, Altmetric, Web of Science, PubMed, EndNote, Zotero, Mendeley)
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Familiarity with funding source bibliographic reporting requirements including NSF and NIH.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion and demonstrated capability to work collaboratively with all levels of library staff and patrons.
