Job Description

The use of Open Educational  Resources (OER) by campus faculty and staff benefits students by providing zero cost learning materials and also by allowing faculty members to customize those learning materials specifically for CSU Pueblo students. This position, in collaboration with the campus Open Education Resources (OER) committee, promotes the use of open and affordable course content and develops, promotes, and manages Open Education services for faculty and students and provides related scholarly communications services including support for publishing and copyright needs of faculty and students.

This position is funded through Vision 2028 Works for fiscal year 2023. Renewal of position funding is contingent upon continued funding of the project, budgetary approvals, and university fiscal sustainability.

Primary Duties
Coordinates OER programs and services including but not limited to:

  • Provides leadership for campus faculty and staff related to OER initiatives
  • Collaborates with Library faculty and the campus OER committee to develop and implement strategic and operational plan for OER at CSU Pueblo
  • Collaborates with Information Technology Services and the campus OER committee to develop information technology and knowledge infrastructure that supports OER
  • Provides leadership for campus in development of policies and procedures related to OER
  • Coordinates and provides individualized support for faculty in the adoption and creation of open and affordable course content
  • Serves as a campus resource on issues related to OER and affordable course content, and conducts outreach and educational programming on these topics
  • Advocates for CSU Pueblo to become a “default OER (DOER)” campus
  • Seeks external funding to expand OER initiatives at CSU Pueblo
  • Directs grant-funded OER initiatives
  • Collects and analyzes appropriate data related to OER
  • Ensures that institutional, state, or federal reports related to OER are submitted
  • Guides efforts to integrate CSU Pueblo’s OER activities with statewide initiatives
  • Collaborates on various campus initiatives to ensure integration of OER efforts into existing campus systems and processes including Banner implementation, bookstore processes, and others.

Coordinates scholarly communications education and outreach services including but not limited to:

  • Develops and promotes services to support faculty and student research including data preservation.
  • Consults with faculty regarding publishing options including license terms and conditions.
  • Develops and coordinates outreach programs and services to inform the campus about legal and ethical issues related to copyright and fair use, citation management, measuring impact, open access publishing, institutional repositories, researcher identification systems, and more.
  • Promotes and supports library open access publishing and repository services.
  • Coordinates with faculty advisory committee to publish student research journal.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in a relevant academic discipline
  • Experience working at an institution of higher education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science or terminal degree in academic discipline with equivalent experience in Open Education development and research
  • OER Librarianship certification or equivalent training and experience
  • Knowledge of technical, legal, and information policy issues related to OER publishing
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse groups and communicate ideas effectively
  • Demonstrated planning and leadership skills, with the ability to function independently, take initiative, and set and achieve goals
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with others at the system, state or national level
  • Experience with copyright and intellectual property laws and their application in academic environments, scientific or scholarly publishing, or in related settings
  • Experience at a regional comprehensive university
  • Experience at an Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI)

Condition of Employment
