Job Description

The Denver Public Library (DPL) is a growing urban library system that serves the City & County of Denver. DPL sees more than 4 million visitors every year across its 27 locations, serves Denver’s most vulnerable communities through outreach and mobile services, hosts thousands of programs a year and manages a collection of more than 1.4 million physical and digital materials. We believe a strong library is vital for a strong community. The Green Valley Ranch Library is a very busy community library that provides services to the Green Valley Ranch neighborhood of Denver. We are surrounded by several schools and see many children and families during after school hours. The successful candidate should have excellent customer service, great communication skills and the ability to work with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.

The Green Valley Ranch Library is hiring a Library Program Associate (LPA) to lead our grant funded After School is Cool (ASIC) programming and to take on outreach responsibilities including read alouds at surrounding schools. The successful candidate will plan, prepare and execute programming for youth ages 8-12 during the after school hours. The LPA will help customers including local organizations, schools, business and service providers to connect them with library services and departments, and to maintain strong, long lasting partnerships with the community. As outreach is one of the main duties for the position, travel within the area to outreach locations will be necessary and expected. Perform other library duties as needed.

  • Knowledge of presenting and providing library services to customers with varying levels of experience and knowledge.
  • Knowledge and experience with developing and presenting programming for young children and their families.
  • Skill in choosing appropriate materials for programming and outreach.
  • Skill in using and assisting customers with technology.
  • Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups.
  • Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
  • Ability to use workplace technology effectively including email, calendar, internet, databases, video conferencing, eMedia, social media and other software.
  • Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with customers, staff and the community.
  • Ability to relate to the needs of customers of all ages and skill levels, including those without English language proficiency.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to developing and maintaining a welcoming environment for young people, including babies, toddlers, preschoolers, grade schoolers, and teens.
  • High level of understanding and competence on diversity, equity and inclusion work.

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field of study (one year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education).

Other things to know:

  • City Employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. All persons offered a position will be required to provide valid proof of vaccination prior to starting employment.
  • The schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday.

Benefits & Additional Compensation Info

The City and County of Denver benefits package will be offered. Although the full salary range is provided, we anticipate offers will fall between $21.70 and $24.42 per hour.
