Job Description

The adult library senior consultant provides knowledge, skills, and resources for Colorado libraries in the areas and initiative for adults (18 and over), including services to adults with disabilities and family programming. This position facilitates and supports effective library partnerships by providing leadership, meeting facilitation, and relevant resources. The adult library senior consultant participates in the development of new grant programs and refinement of existing programs. This position also provides advice for the development and refinement of those programs.

50% Strategic Leadership   
• Consult with external and internal library staff to support development and facilitation of programs and services for adults of varying abilities and families, and other programs and services that support adult lifelong learning and development.  
• Support internal and external library staff to provide programs and services for typical and atypical adults, including but not limited to new adults, seniors, adults with disabilities, and immigrants, through formal and informal communications, an online presence, data collection and dissemination, and other research and information dissemination activities. 
• Establish strategic partnerships and innovative statewide initiatives and projects that improve the capacity of Colorado public, academic, and special libraries to meet community needs and aspirations and encourage community engagement. 
• Facilitate collaboration among Colorado libraries and staff to intentionally strengthen public library sustainability, inclusion, equity, and innovation. 
25% Professional Engagement  
• Maintain active memberships in associations that are involved with library services for adults, outreach, and leadership development. 
• Keep well informed on library trends and issues through informal self-directed learning, formal continuing education opportunities, and by attending regional, state, and national meetings and conferences. 
• Support internal and external library staff regarding inclusive adult library programs and services for adults with disabilities, seniors, health and wellness, civic engagement, workforce development, and literacy. 
• Listen and shares in an intentional way through site visits to all assigned libraries and regular contact through phone calls and emails.  
• Develop, promote, maintain, and evaluate programs, services, training, tools, online presence, and resources that address adult program and service. 
• Provide direct support to internal and external library staff in need by answering phone calls and emails promptly. 

15% Resource Management  
• Identify tools and technologies that will improve service to Colorado communities of interest; conduct research and assessment, then implement appropriate choices following established fiscal and departmental procedures; promote and deliver training and evaluate impact. 
• Evaluate programs and services regularly; streamlines processes and procedures for greater efficiency and effectiveness; and identify unmet needs. 

10% Teamwork  
• Participate as a library development team member to establish and accomplish unit goals and objectives.  
• Share new knowledge with Library Development team gained from informal and formal learning opportunities. 
• Help colleagues in Library Development, Colorado State Library, and other CDE units by offering assistance and expertise when needed.
