Job Description

Role: Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of the library. Major Duties and Responsibilities: CLEANING – Vacuums, sweeps, mops, scrubs, polishes, shampoos, washes, and dusts surfaces including floors, furniture, restrooms, drinking fountains, windows, walls, screens, and office equipment in the library in order to keep the appearance and cleanliness to expectations. MINOR REPAIRS – Replaces light bulbs and makes other minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, fixtures, walls, and furniture. SUPPLIES – Stocks and orders cleaning and repair supplies. SNOW REMOVAL – Removes snow from entrances, steps, and walkways. OTHER DUTIES – Monitors and trains community service workers and moves furniture in order to ensure the smooth operation of the department. Critical Success Factors: Initiative Creativity Emotionally intelligent Knowledge of public library services Knowledge of the safe and correct use of custodial equipment and cleaning supplies Ability to read and follow written and oral directions Ability to operate custodial equipment Ability to use custodial cleaners Ability to perform heavy manual labor including bending stooping, reaching, lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 100 pounds. Completion of the 10th grade and some previous custodial experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, which provides the critical success factors. Knowledge of the safe and correct use of custodial equipment and cleaning supplies.
