The Community
Canyons, rivers, and mountains paint the setting of rural Delta County, inspiring its residents to take regular excursions into the outdoors for hiking, camping, rafting, fishing, hunting, skiing, snowshoeing, and more. Agriculture and mining continue to be prominent industries for the area. With a population of approximately 30,000, the county has six incorporated communities—Cedaredge, Crawford, Delta, Hotchkiss, Orchard City, and Paonia—that offer diversity of lifestyles and interests.
Delta County Libraries' mission is to "Serve and Empower People by Providing Resources for Life, Leisure, and Learning." In order to meet that mission, the Library District supports five libraries in Cedaredge, Crawford, Delta, Hotchkiss, and Paonia, as well as a robust online library. The Library District maintains a varied collection of materials in print, audio, and electronic formats, as well as a wide range of technology for on-site and home use. Each library offers an annual schedule of dynamic programming for all ages including a Summer Reading Program, weekly storytimes, book clubs, technology help, and much more.
