Position Summary
The John E. Jaqua Law Library is looking for a gifted teacher with a passion for delivering effective, technology-enhanced learning experiences in an active learning environment. The Law Instruction Librarian is a critical member of the Library’s reference team. In addition to sharing in direct research instruction, this position plays a lead role in developing, tracking, and supporting instructional technology to enhance the team’s teaching activities, improve pedagogical methods, and promote legal information literacy within Law School and related University programs. The successful candidate will enjoy the support of highly experienced and collegial library staff, and the warm support of the Law School community. As a member of the UO Libraries system, your career growth as a law librarian will be further enhanced by a rich, multi-disciplinary network of library professionals.
The person in this position reports to the senior Law Reference Librarian and is expected to engage in service to the University, UO Libraries, and community through work on committees and similar groups; participate in appropriate professional development activities and organizations to stay current with trends and practices in the field; meet UO Libraries criteria for promotion and retention; and contribute to the University’s goals regarding equity and inclusion.
Minimum Requirements
• Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution by time of appointment.
• Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited institution by time of appointment.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
• Mastery of basic legal research sources and techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to teach legal research.
• Ability to integrate innovative educational technologies to enhance teaching.
• Database and Internet searching proficiencies.
• Ability to manage a project from conception to delivery.
• Ability to achieve results in a collaborative environment.
• Ability to support and enhance a collegial, cooperative, and diverse working and learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Reference and/or instructional experience in an academic law library.
• Experience providing classroom instruction and distance education.
• Experience supporting classroom technology and remote or asynchronous instructional technologies.
• Experience supporting learning management systems, particularly Canvas.
• Experience using LibGuides.

About the John E. Jaqua Law Library:
Located inside the Knight Law Center on the University campus, the John E. Jaqua Law Library supports the legal education program of the Law School. The Law School enrolls over 500 students in its JD, LLM, and master’s degree programs, and over 400 undergraduate students in its legal studies minor. The Law Library is part of the unified UO Libraries system and law librarians are members of the UO Libraries career faculty. The Law Library offers courses on legal research skills, assists faculty with scholarship, and provides enhanced learning spaces. In partnership with the UO Libraries, the Law Library provides comprehensive legal collections that support the Law School curriculum, special programs, and campus legal research needs.
