The Colorado State Library is seeking a Web Developer and Data Consultant for its Library Research Service. This position is for 30 hours a week and includes medical and retirement benefits, as well as the option for remote work.

Position Summary

The Web Developer and Data Consultant supports the work of the Library Research Service and the Colorado State Library by working with Colorado libraries to leverage their individual systems to gain useful data and to use that data to make decisions. This position will work directly with libraries to develop innovative data solutions and present regionally and nationally to move the discussion about how to process and make data available for libraries. This position is also responsible for direct technical support and maintenance of the DART online reference tracking system, administering the Public Library Annual Report database and other publicly-accessible datasets, and maintenance of the web page at LRS.org. This position will do general technical training and instruction in their areas of technical expertise and interest.

Work directly with libraries and librarians across Colorado to help them to access and analyze the data created and housed in their systems. This will include analysis of survey and other research data, when appropriate.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

●        Provide direct technical support and training to library staff across Colorado on various technical topics, including the use of DART and the Public Library Annual Report Database, SQL and other library systems’ reporting, and effective, ethical use of library data.

●        Work directly with stakeholders to develop innovative systems and procedures to support library data and to help library staff harvest their data to support decisions and projects for individual libraries, wider groups of libraries, and projects at the Colorado State Library.

●        Plan, coordinate, design and otherwise contribute to the creation and facilitation of professional development for library staff, including online and in-person teaching and regional or national conferences.

●        Manage the Library Research Service website (lrs.org), including its design, structure, content strategy, and accessibility using HTML and a content management system.

●        Develop and maintain PHP applications, including DART (dart.lrs.org)reference tracker and analytics system, used by more than 50 libraries across the state.

●        Develop and maintain the Public Library Annual Report database, a database of library data heavily used by Colorado librarians, using PHP and SQL.

●        Build clean, efficient, testable, and reusable code

●        Solve performance problems and architectural challenges

●        Work closely with members of the Colorado State Library team in a collaborative, project-focused environment.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Education and Substitutions
A Bachelor's degree in IT, statistics, research, education, social science, or a related field.

Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Required Experience:

●        Experience working directly with internal or external customers to provide technical assistance and/or training.

●        Demonstrable experience with SQL, PHP or Javascript, including front and back end maintenance and/or infrastructure design.

●        Proficiency with building and maintaining relational databases.

●        Proficiency with HTML and accessible web design.

●        Ability and willingness to travel.

●        Ability to work independently and as a part of a team

Preferred Experience:

●        Experience with instructional design

●        Experience with Integrated Library Systems (ILS)

●        Expertise in one or more programming languages.

●        Experience teaching or presenting on technical topics to technical and non-technical users.

●        Experience working with large datasets.

●        Experience managing a Linux server

●        Experience with web analytics and usability testing.

COVID-19
