The Community
Are you sitting at work, or working from home, knowing that there is a dream job just waiting for you? If so, read on!
As the Library Director at the Spanish Peaks Library District, you awake to a beautiful sunrise glinting off the Spanish Peaks in southern Colorado. After a pleasant drive to work, notably without rush-hour traffic, you arrive to open the library in Walsenburg, Colorado. You take a moment to appreciate the lovingly restored school building, the bright modern interior, the carefully tended stacks and the engaging children’s area. You walk to your office as the new Library Director!
It gets even better. The quieter pace of life in a small town gives ample opportunity to explore the surrounding areas including Lathrop State Park, the great Sand Dunes, Santa Fe and Taos, dinosaur tracks and petroglyphs. Farmers markets abound in the summer as well as 4H shows and rodeos in the fall. Don’t miss the chuckwagon dinner in Gardner where the Spanish Peaks Library District Bookmobile is currently located.
This is a unique opportunity to guide the library on its current course of growth and expansion, bring innovative ideas forward and implement positive change. Here are some programs that have been added in 2021/22:
- Gardening 101
- Trivia night at the local golf club
- The Sassy Stitchers
- Warm Cookies of the Revolution
- Free movie nights
- Blood pressure screenings once a month
- Resource assistance once a month
The Director would be able to build and grow existing programs, develop new outreach initiatives, seek ways to engage the community while working with many other community entities. If you are the kind of person that thinks outside the box, likes challenges and to watch projects flourish with your assistance and guidance, while being mindful of your community, this is YOUR place. With the collaboration of staff and the Board of Trustees, you could be the change agent for developing a library for the future. The possibilities are endless.
If this appeals to you, speaks to you, calls you to rural life, this adventure awaits you!
