The Special Collections & Archives Librarian leads and manages the Kent Library Special Collections & Archives (SC&A) unit and its services, resources and spaces; including the Rare Book Room. The Librarian will supervise professional, clerical/technical and student staff. This Librarian is responsible for acquiring, organizing, maintaining and preserving SC&A resources and collections. This position collaborates closely with academic department faculty on teaching, learning and research. The SC&A Librarian teaches how to find, evaluate and use primary and regional resources and provides user reference services. This position effectively engages, and builds direct relationships, with current and potential donors to support the acquisition of new resources and collections. The Librarian is responsible for administering SC&A resource access and managing preservation platforms; such as ArchivesSpace.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Kent Library Special Collections & Archives (SC&A) unit and all its resources, operations and spaces.

• Provide excellent user interactions, reference and research services.

• Teach information literacy and research instruction sessions using primary and regional resources.

• Hire, train and supervise SC&A professional, clerical and student staff and assigned graduate assistants.

• Establish and maintain effective relationships with existing and potential donors.

• Manage the Rare Book Room, maintaining its collections and assisting researchers, faculty and student resources access and use.

• Acquire, organize and preserve SC&A resources and collections.

• Oversee and manage the online and digital platforms making SC&A resources findable and accessible.

• Collaborate with the Center for Faulkner Studies director and share responsibility for making the Faulkner materials findable and accessible to researchers.

• Collaborate with the Bollinger Center for Regional History director and support efforts to preserve, present and promote the history of southeast Missouri.

• Serve as liaison librarian to academic departments.

• Engage in scholarly research and writing and pursue a professional development program.

• Contribute to Kent Library committees, activities, and outreach, and to the University through faculty governance and committee service.

• Support Southeast Missouri State University's and Kent Library's strategic planning activities.

Required Qualifications

• ALA-accredited Master's degree

• Demonstrated commitment to high-quality user services

• Significant coursework in archives and preservation OR one year of work experience in special collections and archives

• Experience with primary resources and archival research teaching and instruction

• Commitment to learning and developing leadership, management and supervisory skills

• Ability to organize archival materials and collections and strong knowledge of archival practices

• Experience in project management

• Ability to take individual initiative and to work effectively in a group

• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

• Awareness of emerging trends and technologies for archives management, preservation and collection access

• Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multicultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
