Job Description

Substitutes for library staff with a variety of duties and levels of responsibility in all public service areas of the library. Flexible and varied schedule between 0-19 hours/week, requires evening & weekend hours.
The salary range for this position is $17.22 - $24.04 per hour with a hiring range of $17.22 - $20.63, depending on qualifications and experience. Position will close to applicants on: Monday, March 7, 2022 at 12:00 P.M. M.S.T.

Loveland Public Library, located in the heart of Loveland, serves a population of 77,000 from a beautiful LEED Gold Certified building. The recently remodeled and expanded facility was designed with art-inspired elements from the surrounding Rocky Mountains and Big Thompson River. A large-capacity public computer lab, learning center and creator space welcome over 45,000 patrons each year. A rich array of programs and services including bilingual storytimes, writing workshops, cultural celebrations, a used bookstore, a whimsical children’s area and a YOUmedia lab for teens make Loveland Public Library a destination for locals and visitors alike. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains flexible schedule and must be willing to report for work often on short notice
  • Provides customer service including reference, reader’s advisory and technology assistance for patrons of all ages both in person and by phone
  • Check library materials in and out, place reserves, process fines, make reservations for computer use and classes
  • Maintain overall organization, appearance and cleanliness of the library including but not limited to shelving materials, shelf reading, placing books on display, shifting within stacks
  • Collects money and makes change using a cash register or cash drawer
  • Regularly follow opening and/or closing procedures

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, skills & abilities:
General knowledge of computer based library systems, Microsoft Office, Outlook and the Internet. Ability to perform job duties effectively during relaxed and stressed activity levels within the department. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Familiarity with current library practices and materials. Knowledge of basic customer service philosophies. Ability to learn new task skills on the job. Ability to work independently, complete tasks on time and constructively problem solve.   Spanish language proficiency a plus.

Education and/or experience
2 (two) years college coursework or Associates degree required.  An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis 1 (one) year library or closely related technology experience required; this is in addition to any years used to satisfy the education/experience requirement.

Working environment/physical activities:
Works in a dynamic public library environment with extensive public contact. Must be able to visually scan library computer and staff screens and explain displayed information and direct customers to shelf locations. Must be able to position or move materials on varying height shelves and in file cabinets for extended periods of time. Must be able to move library carts weighing 50 pounds across a carpeted floor.  Flexible schedule requires evening and weekend hours.
