Job Description

Librarian (Knowledge Manager)

The Digital Wellness Lab of the Division of Adolescent/Young Adult Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, is seeking a skilled content analyst and knowledge manager for a full-time in-person or hybrid position. The Digital Wellness Lab conducts research to educate and empower young people, caregivers, and the tech industry to create and consume media in ways that optimize children’s health and development. 

The Librarian/Knowledge Manager will oversee the Lab’s information management systems, develop and maintain current knowledge, and contribute to the outreach and research activities of the Lab. This person will have the opportunity to expand the Lab’s comprehensive Media Health Effects research database and provide a range of reference services to support the Lab’s impact-focused work. This is an exciting opportunity for a learning- and detail-oriented professional interested in the topics of human development, psychology, and media/technology, who is seeking a role within which they can grow professionally and directly contribute to young people’s health and wellness

Responsibilities

Information management

  • Identifies, evaluates, and catalogs high-value research and other materials (including, but not limited to, guidebooks, popular press articles, and videos) related to the Lab’s strategy, research, and outreach efforts;
  • Collaborates with the web and communications teams to maintain up-to-date research for website and social media copy;
  • Actively monitors and informs colleagues of emerging research and policy/legislation; and
  • Maintains a dynamic catalog of Lab presentations, research papers, posters, and other published works.

Reference services

  • Performs knowledge base and literature searches and produces comprehensive literature reviews to support Lab activities and publications;
  • Assists investigators and other Lab personnel in data and/or document identification and procurement (including through interlibrary loan) for journal articles, presentations, and other publications;
  • Manages citations, databases, and provides other reference support; and
  • Maintains professional association memberships and relevant subscriptions for Lab personnel.

Content support

  • Continually updates and expands the Media Health Effects research database and creates high-quality, relevant supporting resources;
  • Supports the development and submission of research manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, grant applications, and IRB applications;
  • Collaborates with web developer to track data to aid in evaluating the resources developed by the Lab; and
  • Ensures all materials produced by the Lab are properly cited, formatted, proofread, and use the latest research available.

Qualifications

  • Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts typically acquired through completion of a Master's degree in social science research, library science, or a closely related field and a minimum of one year of related professional experience.
  • Analytical skills and judgment to interpret data and take appropriate action in circumstances and situations that vary is required.
  • Technical competence with databases, internet-based search strategies, and standard computer programs is required.

  • Flexible, nimble approach that allows for growth and change within an expanding Lab environment
  • High degree of self-motivation and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication, planning, and project management skills

This role can be fully in-person in our office in the Longwood Area, Boston, MA or hybrid.
