Job Description

Performs entry-level professional duties under the general supervision of the Customer Experience Manager assigned to the Customer Experience Division. The salary range for this position is $22.31- $32.40 per hour with a hiring range of $22.31 - $27.36, depending on qualifications and experience. Position will close to applicants on: Monday, March 21, 2022 at 12:00 P.M. M.S.T.

This is a part-time, benefitted 25 hour per week job.

Loveland Public Library, located in the heart of Loveland, serves a population of 77,000 from a beautiful LEED Gold Certified building. The recently remodeled and expanded facility was designed with art-inspired elements from the surrounding Rocky Mountains and Big Thompson River. A large-capacity public computer lab, learning center and creator space welcome over 45,000 patrons each year. Partnerships with organizations serving diverse populations support the library’s mission to inform, inspire and engage a strong community through outreach, classes, afterschool programs, and technology accessThis position within the Library’s Customer Service Division works directly with our patrons to connect them to the resources they need, as well as working behind the scenes to support other library services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:
Provides customer service by checking in/out library materials; renews materials; collects fines and fees; shelving and shelf reading; manages the holds through the library computer system by entering, deleting , processing hold notices and searching for missing holds; checks in/ stamps daily mail; responds to customer requests with information, directional assistance or action delivered in person or by phone; answers incoming calls; inventory on  missing/claim return status materials; responsible for the opening and closing of division, building; supervision in absence of Librarian III and II; explains library policies and procedures; evaluates/ weeds library materials in assigned area; processing library cards; process overdue, damaged and missing notices.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Balance cash register; writing up receipts; creates book displays;  reinstatement of lost status materials;  attends staff and division meetings; explains the use of equipment and technology resources to customers; explains library policies and procedures; write up fine slips for unbarcoded materials and enter charges into database; empties sorted bins and checks returned materials for damages/missing items; charts and signage for Customer Service are produced by PC; tabulates daily circulation statistics; checks new materials for modification of check-out period and directs to Tech Services; scheduling of galleria display case; visually scan the library/staff computer screens and explain the displayed information other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
Supervises the Customer Service desk, sorting room and volunteers in absence of Librarian III and II.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, skills & abilities:
Working knowledge of the Dewey system; effectively communicate with staff and public; excellent customer service/supervisory skills; complete tasks on time; ability to problem solve using independent judgment; oral and written communication skills; adapt to a changing library environment. Welcomes diverse populations, including but not limited to cultural, racial, economic, and ethnic diversity.

Education and/or experience:
Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or Master’s Degree in related field such as Public Administration, Education, or Social Work preferred.  An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.

1 year of progressively responsible library or related field experience required.  This is in addition to any years used to satisfy the education requirement.  

Experience providing customer service to diverse individuals and groups is preferred. 

Material and equipment directly used:
Computer, scanner, keyboard, laminator, telephone, book carts and bins, copiers, cash register, printers, credit card machine; express check-out; security gates; RFID equipment; calculator, paper cutter

Working conditions and physical requirements:
Will work in a typical library setting with extensive public contact, work hours to include days, evenings and weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), Sitting, walking, lifting and carrying materials up to 20 lbs., pushing carts up to 50 lbs., Bending and reaching up to and from 5” to 80” above the floor when shelving materials. Flexible schedule requires some evenings and weekend hours.
