Barrington Public Library - Part-Time Library Assistant (Makerspace)

Barrington Public Library seeks a candidate for the part-time, 15-hour a week position of Library Assistant to aid in the operation of the library’s new “Makerspace Studio.” Additional on-call hours in the Children’s Department may also be available.

Pay rate is $17.00 per hour

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Become proficient in a variety of makerspace tools.
• Manage patron access to the makerspace (checking-in, tracking usage) during open hours.
• Actively engage with patrons and educate them on makerspace concepts.
• Clearly instruct proper use of library tools and equipment.
• Ensure all equipment is shut down properly and left in good working order.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated competency in computer use including internet, email, and office suite software.
• Working knowledge of cloud-based collaboration platforms such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
• Ability to learn and become proficient with equipment and software programs as required to perform assigned duties effectively and efficiently.

Requirements:

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalency. Bachelor's or Associate's degree preferred.
• Must be able to perform physical activity including but not limited to kneeling, squatting, and moving library materials on a regular basis.
• Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required.
