Job Description

The City of Littleton is seeking a full-time Education Program Coordinator for the Littleton Immigrant Resources Center (LIRC) at Bemis Library.

The LIRC Education Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall activities associated with the LIRC Education Programs for non-native English-speaking adults.  Programs include English as a Second Language (ESL) and Citizenship classes.   The Program Coordinator is also responsible for the recruitment, orientation, training, and monitoring of community volunteers in charge of tutoring students.   In addition, the position will perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties for the education programs.

The ideal candidate will enjoy coordinating volunteer programs for adults and will have a background in coordinating and managing volunteers as well as experience in developing and implementing curriculum.   Exceptional candidates will be organized and able to handle multiple priorities, and should feel comfortable with community outreach and a customer service based philosophy.

Starting pay at or near $30.23 per hour 

Salary range: $24.18-$36.28

This full-time position is non-exempt per FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position and may have the option to work a hybrid schedule with some days teleworking and some days working in person at the office.  Hybrid schedules will be based on the day to day needs of the customer and may be variable from week to week.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Creates and maintains ESL and Citizenship curriculum.

  • Schedules and administers adult classes and tutoring.
  • Supervises the work of the ESL teacher and volunteer instructors.
  • Oversees lesson plans for ESL and Citizenship classes and tutoring.
  • Tests students to determine their language level.
  • Evaluates and re-evaluates students as needed.
  • Recruits and trains current and new volunteers.
  • Matches volunteers with students.
  • Develops an online training program for volunteers.
  • Organizes and coordinates quarterly volunteer trainings.
  • Provides ongoing educational support to volunteers.
  • Coordinates volunteer and student appreciation days.
  • Collaborates with library staff on cultural programming.
  • Manages database of students & volunteers.
  • Collects and maintains relevant statistics and prepares reports as required.
  • Assists with grant research, writing and reports.
  • Promptly returns calls from students and volunteers, accurately tracks schedules and deadlines, and ensures forms and steps in English/Citizenship learning processes are completed accurately.
  • Keeps information on website and social media sites up to date.
  • Handles payments for classes and tutoring.
  • Performs other similar assignments and projects as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and,

  • Two (2) years ESL/ELL or training adult learners, and
  • Two (2) years’ experience managing and training volunteers or,
  • An equivalent combination of education, formal training, and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

  • Experience using Salesforce and Microsoft Office preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Requires ability to develop curriculum, lesson plans, present training materials and teach others.

  • Requires in-person and online teaching skills, including ability to use video conferencing software and navigate digital teaching materials.
  • Requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Requires strong recruitment/outreach skills to ensure that volunteer/student target numbers are met.
  • Requires advanced skills and abilities that involve interpersonal and leadership, organizational and multi-tasking, written and verbal communication techniques for report writing, correspondence, providing customer service and giving directions or feedback.
  • Requires solid keyboarding and data entry skills to effectively utilize software, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and reports.
