Job Description

OVERVIEW OF ROLE:

As an independent lead worker, works with the internal and external customers to ensure seamless development and execution of events in the Boulder Public Library (BPL) Canyon Theater. Manages theater technical operations including procedures and techniques required for operation and maintenance of computerized stage lighting, electronic sound systems equipment as well as knowledge and experience with safety requirements associated with such equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Event Coordination and Site Management (70%)

  • Manages the theater schedule. Coordinates and schedules programs and events with staff, volunteers and/or community members such as, speakers, performances, movies, podcasts, etc. in the Canyon Theater.
  • Responds to rental inquiries and requests for bookings.
  • Provides event planning guidance with customer, as it relates to city procedures and policies.
  • Develops and implements operating procedures that meet facility and industry best practices.
  • Implements library rules and policies regarding use of the theater.
  • Provides users with orientation to the space, equipment, etc.
  • Oversees the set-up and “take down” of programs and events.
  • Coordinates program and event logistics with facilities and information technology staff, as needed.
  • Creates invoices and processes payments as necessary.

Theater Technology Management (20%)

  • Responsible for the maintenance and readiness of equipment.
  • Develops and maintains standards for configuration, setup, security and on-going support.
  • Troubleshoots/analyzes/solves theater equipment problems including but not limited to computerized lighting, sound board, wired and wireless microphones, electronic sound system equipment, and video equipment.
  • Manages contracts and work orders, oversees vendors’ work to perform repairs and routine equipment/system maintenance.

Theater Administration (10%)

  • Communicates clearly and effectively with library staff and management about issues, needs, and event details to ensure success.
  • Advises senior management and assists with sponsorship management.
  • Contributes to annual and long-range planning efforts related to budget, program, and service development for the theater.
  • Oversees general maintenance of theater space. Arranges non-routine repairs and maintenance with facilities staff.
  • Conducts emergency evacuation and safety trainings twice annually.
  • Maintains records for theater use, equipment and maintenance.

Additional Info & Requirements

MINIMUM JOB REQUIRMENTS

  • 3 years-experience working with theater systems, OR a bachelor’s degree OR any equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Demonstrated time-management and organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and understand the scope and urgency of requests with deadlines.
  • 3 years-customer service experience including managing relationships with customers.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve a variety of technical problems.
  • Computer literate, especially in Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong level of integrity and honesty.

Schedule Requirement:

  • This job requires evening and weekend shifts.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing schedules.
  • Independent problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
