Job Description

Librarian staff in the Adult Services Division of the Loveland Public Library focus in the areas of General Adult, Business Reference, and Outreach. Each performs professional duties under general direction including but not limited to answering reference, readers’ advisory and general questions, developing adult collection to serve a broad population and programming and community outreach to diverse populations. Flexible schedule requires some evening & weekend hours. This position reports to the Adult Services Division Manager. The salary range for this position is $22.31 - $32.40 per hour with a hiring range of $22.31- $27.36, depending on qualifications and experience. Position will close to applicants on: Monday, April 25, 2022 at 12:00 P.M. M.S.T.

Loveland Public Library is seeking an individual with a passion for serving a wide range of adults.   We welcome an out-of-the-box thinker who is excited about the opportunity to implement innovative ideas. This librarian builds relationships in the community through programming, partnerships, and collaboration.  In addition to innovation and collaboration, this position works with the Adult Services team to provide reference, readers advisory, and digital skills support.  

Loveland Public Library, located in the heart of Loveland, serves a population of 77,000 from a beautiful LEED Gold Certified building. The facility was designed with art-inspired elements from the surrounding Rocky Mountains and Big Thompson River. A large-capacity public computer lab, learning center and creator space welcome over 45,000 patrons each year. A rich array of programs and services including bilingual storytimes, writing workshops, cultural celebrations, a used bookstore, a whimsical children’s area and a YOUmedia lab for teens maker space.  Partnerships with organizations serving diverse populations support the library’s mission to inform, inspire and engage a strong community through outreach, classes, afterschool programs, and technology access.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Investigates needs and aspirations of the community’s young, middle, and older adults, and delivers programs and outreach services to match.
  • Identifies, expands, and maintains community partner relationships.
  • Engages with community organizations by attending meetings and sits on boards, committees, and taskforces.
  • Searches for, locates, and retrieves information/materials to answer questions posed in person, by phone, by email, and by IM or Chat.
  • Provides support, training, and troubleshooting for the library’s online resources and downloadables as it relates to e-readers, tablets, and other mobile devices.
  • Participates in collection development for the department including selection and weeding of library materials in assigned area.
  • Develops and provides library instruction and patron education to the public, individually and in groups.
  • Explains to patrons the use of equipment and resources including the online catalog, databases, microform reader-printers, and copiers.
  • Manages the department’s social media platform, creates department’s marketing materials and updates Adult Services webpage.
  • Compiles monthly reports by pulling data and using Excel and Tableau for analysis.
  • Uses analysis tools to develop community centric programs and collections.
  • Serve on library or citywide committees
  • Manages maintenance of library van
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Develop and present dynamic programming on a wide range of topics
  • Create book and special displays
  • Process and display newspapers and magazines

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, skills & abilities:
Ability to plan programs, outreach services, and maintain community relations. Ability to provide strong customer service to customers of all ages and backgrounds. Ability to positively inspire and energize customers about library services and materials. Ability to incorporate equity, diversity and inclusion in all operations. Ability to work collaboratively across teams. Ability to work independently, complete tasks on time and constructively problem solve. Ability to exercises initiative, judgment, and decision making in meeting objectives. Knowledge of library reference and reader advisory, standard library arrangement and description, and materials collection development. Ability to conduct a reference interview, locate information in print and online resources. Must possess strong presentation skills and general knowledge of computer and Microsoft office tools. Must have strong understanding of current library best practices. Ability to train volunteers and oversee their work. Welcomes diverse populations, including but not limited to cultural, racial, economic, and ethnic diversity.  Spanish language proficiency a plus.

Education and/or experience:
Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or Master’s Degree in related field such as Public Administration, Education, or Social Work preferred.  An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.

1 year of progressively responsible library or related field experience required.  This is in addition to any years used to satisfy the education requirement.  

Experience providing customer service to diverse individuals and groups is preferred.

Material and equipment directly used:
III integrated library system; online databases, the Internet, PCs, microform reader-printers, mobile technology, photocopiers, fax, telephone, book carts, bar code reader and city van.

Working conditions and physical requirements:
Dynamic library environment with extensive public contact, may require sitting for extended periods of time, repetitive motion tasks, reaching, bending, kneeling, and moving or positioning objects up to 20 pounds.  Moves and positions carts of library materials up to fifty (50) pounds. Requires frequent retrieval of reading materials on library shelves, which are located from five (5) inches to eighty (80) inches above the floor.  Flexible schedule requires some evening & weekend hours.
