Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries seek a collaborative and strategic individual to serve as Computer Science, Mathematics, & Social Sciences Librarian! This is an entry-level, tenure-track faculty position that will be hired at the Assistant Professor rank and report to the Researcher Engagement Section Lead. The Computer Science, Mathematics, & Social Sciences Librarian will be a member of the Libraries’ Researcher Engagement Section, in the Researcher and Collections Engagement Team, which is part of the Success and Engagement Chapter. The Computer Science, Mathematics, & Social Sciences Librarian will support the departments of Computer Science, Economics, Information Science, Applied Mathematics, and Mathematics by participating in all six pillars of liaison librarian responsibilities: collection development, instruction, relationship building, reference/consultation service, subject expertise, and advocacy. The successful candidate will cultivate and sustain strong connections with students, scholars, educators, and staff in and beyond these departments, providing consultation on research strategies, emerging scholarship methods, and critical information practices, both individually, and in collaboration with Libraries colleagues. This will include conducting regular environmental scans of the assigned liaison departments to identify emerging trends; participating in related campus and curriculum groups; and facilitating learning opportunities to support student, scholar, and educator engagement with emerging methods, mediums, and tools. The Computer Science, Mathematics, & Social Sciences Librarian’s position responsibilities include significant research and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado Boulder. They will participate in the Libraries’ collaborative project development environment and the Libraries’ Commitment to Diversity and Inclusive Excellence, contributing to cultivating inclusive Libraries and campus environments.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Responsibilities include:

  • Collection Development: uses their subject expertise, relationships, and interactions to inform building collections that are responsive to community needs.
  • Instruction: builds information literacy teaching and learning into the University curriculum related to specific disciplines, areas, competencies, or techniques.
  • Relationship Building: builds bridges between the Libraries and the University community while partnering with internal collaborators to connect people to the full range of the Libraries’ resources and services.
  • Reference/Consultation: advises and guides researchers in their areas of expertise to enable learning and connect users to library resources and services.
  • Subject Expertise: understands subject and disciplinary needs and how those relate to the curricular, programmatic, research, and teaching needs of the faculty and students within their assigned subject areas.
  • Advocacy: uses their subject expertise and area relationships to translate and advocate for library priorities to their liaison areas
  • Collaboration: contributes to cross-section/-team/-chapter group initiatives and activities.
  • Other: as relevant or assigned by the Section or Team leads.

What We Can Offer

The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month) tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant Professor rank. The salary range is $66,000-$70,000. Relocation assistance is available for those who qualify.

What We Require

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent, or a relevant combination of professional library experience and terminal degree(s) in a related field(s).
  • Experience engaging in collaborative projects and programs locally, regionally, nationally, or internationally.
  • Experience providing innovative learning opportunities and/or instruction in an academic or research library.
