Job Description
Summary: The Cataloging Lead performs original and copy cataloging based on current standards, database maintenance, and provides inventory support for the Newport Public Library.
Essential Duties:
• Adds accurate bib, item and volume level records to Ocean State Library’s (OSL) Sierra ILS.
• Categorizes and classifies all library materials, including books, A/V, periodicals, and non-traditional lending materials.
• Ensures all material can be retrieved conveniently using standardized methods and guidelines.
• Evaluates content collection items and applies call numbers that both work for the item and the collection as a whole.
• Runs reports monthly to maintain collection consistency, accuracy and monitors for borrowing trends.
• Updates department documentation.
• Attends meetings, conferences and continuing education classes.
• Keeps apprised of the latest developments in the field.
• Assists with physically processing materials, as needed.
• Coverage of public service desks and other duties may vary, and are applied at the discretion of the Library Director and Head of Collection Management.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited graduate school program or a Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years of cataloging experience.
• Knowledge of MARC format, AACR2 and RDA cataloging practices.
• Familiarity with both Library of Congress and Dewey classification systems.
• A basic understanding of HTML coding language.
• Familiarity with Google Workspace and Office 365.
• Experience with an integrated library system.
Preferred Qualifications:
• MLS from an ALA-accredited program; current enrollees close to graduation will be considered.
• Experience using the following programs: Sierra ILS, LibApps, BTCAT, OCLC Connexion, WebDewey, FirstSearch, TS360.
• Familiarity with programming/scripting languages.
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Benefits & Additional Compensation Info
• Full time at 35 hours per week, working Monday-Friday;
• $46,000-48,000 (DOQ), with 1% stepped increase in addition to annual COLA;
• Excellent benefits (health and dental), including 14 paid holidays;
