Job Description

Provides research and instruction services to a diverse clientele. This is a part-time (.50 FTE, or 20 hours) unranked library faculty position. The position reports to the head of the Research and Instruction department.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Essential

  • Participates in the Research & Instruction department research help service model. Provide on-site and remote research and informational services to library users by effectively utilizing print and online resources. Services are offered in-person and using e-mail, online chat, web conferencing, and telephone.  This duty may involve some remote work assignments in the evening. (75%)
  • Assist with department projects and research. (10%)
  • Provide library orientations or library instruction. (10%).
  • Assist with collection development in an assigned subject area. (5%)

Minimum Requirements

Education:

Possession of a Master’s Degree in Library Science, preferably from an ALA-accredited library/information science program.

Experience & Knowledge:

-Advanced knowledge of searching typical online library resources.

-Reliable knowledge of print and online reference sources in the humanities, social sciences, health and natural sciences and others commonly found in academic libraries. Ability to learn new resources utilized in this library location.

-Knowledge of library procedures, practices, and the Library of Congress classification

-Excellent communication skills, marked by active listening, written and verbal responses.

-Strong computer skills as they relate to reference librarianship, including the ability to search library catalogs and databases effectively; the ability to use Microsoft Office and web browsers at a minimum.

-Ability to work effectively with a diverse clientele and staff.

-Ability to work independently during hours when there may not be another professional librarian on duty.

-Excellent grasp of customer service protocols including online and telephone etiquette.

-Basic knowledge of the functions of hardware such as network printers.
