Job Description

Summary:

The position of the Library Specialist- Circulation Supervisor assumes direct responsibility for the organization and operation of the Circulation Department, which is the main service point for library patrons.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Library Director, the Library Specialist- Circulation Specialist is responsible for the maintenance of the automated systems necessary for the accurate and efficient operation of the Circulation Department and serves as the main library patron contact during operation hours. Responsibilities also include the management and supervision of library work-study employees.

Essential Duties:

  • Circulation Management
    • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of library patron accounts.
    • Responsible for managing the overdue process and reporting.
    • Create, schedule, and analyze reports from the integrated library system.
    • Use the integrated library system to complete circulation tasks.
    • Answer basic reference questions when librarians are not on duty and refer more complex questions as appropriate.
    • Solve basic library technology problems including computers and printers or refer problems to the Help Desk.
  • Student Worker Supervision
    • Monitor and schedule student shifts according to a budget.
    • Supervise work-study employees including, screening, interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, and scheduling.
    • Coordinate work-study students to assist with library job tasks.
  • Physical Collection Maintenance
    • Responsible for collection maintenance projects including inventory discard process
    • Responsible for stack maintenance including shelving.
  • Interlibrary Loan Management
    • Manage interlibrary loan operations in order to verify citations, locate materials, and order needed items for patrons.
    • Oversee shipping and receiving of materials and process incoming and outgoing mail as needed.
    • Oversee and control borrowing and loaning practices in conformance with state, regional, and national interlibrary loan policies and codes.
  • Course Reserves
    • Maintain the print reserve material collections according to library policies and copyright law.
  • Other Duties
    • Demonstrate continuing professional development.
    • Maintain contact and cooperation with the Wyoming State Library and other libraries in the WYLD Consortium.
    • Serve as backup staffing for other library specialist positions.
    • Perform a variety of other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

Typical work environment is a public library space, classroom, and/or office setting requiring normal safety precautions. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors traveling between campus buildings in various weather conditions.

Physical Demands:

Employee must be able to stand for long periods of time, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use a computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms. Employee will regularly work with office technology including computers, telephones, and other office productivity and IT equipment. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required (books, office supplies, etc.) Work will include a 40-hour work week including opening shifts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of:
    • Basic computer applications, ex. Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
    • Effective verbal and written communication practices in a customer service environment.
    • Basic troubleshooting techniques for library technologies (printers, copiers, computers, fax machines, etc.)
  • Ability to:
    • Learn supervisory procedures and techniques
    • Remain organized, communicate effectively, and train and manage student workers of varied skills and abilities.
    • Learn automated library systems or evidence of transferable job skills from comparable systems.
    • Learn Casper College and Casper College Library policies and procedures.
    • Learn FERPA, library patron privacy requirements, and other confidentiality regulations.
    • Work in a service desk environment with frequent interruptions.
    • Manage a variety of routine issues including maintenance issues, patron complaints, etc., or refer to the appropriate personnel if needed.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other people.
  • Associate's Degree

Desired Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of computer, library, supervisory, or customer service experience desirable.
  • Bachelor’s Degree
