Job Description

Garfield County Public Library District (GCPLD) is expanding - more services, programs, and events; longer open hours; and more awesome people joining our team!
We're seeking a Branch Manager for our Silt Branch Library. The person who fills this role will have the opportunity to lead the Silt team, a group of individuals who are talented, dedicated, creative, and enthusiastic about serving the public. The Branch Manager also helps influence, plan, design, and carry out public services for the entire District as a member of the Public Services Team. The Branch Manager is expected to become a vital community asset and an involved player in their community. We strongly encourage our Branch Managers to actively participate in the librarian profession, attending professional conferences and continuing their development in the field.

The Branch Manager promotes and maintains a positive work environment that is both satisfying and challenging to our staff; learning each team member's strengths and developing staff in all areas of librarianship. The Branch Manager builds positive relationships with staff across the District in various roles; generously collaborates on projects, plans, and ideas; holds them self and others accountable to working at a high level of professionalism; and is a role model to their staff and others throughout the organization.

The Branch Manager oversees the daily operations of their branch. Areas of responsibility include: circulation, collection development, readers' advisory and reference services, events programming, outreach, resource sharing, management and development of staff, and facilities oversight.

The salary range for this position is $65,686 - $83,834 annually (placement dependent on experience and qualifications); excellent benefits including medical, dental, and vision; District contribution to your retirement account; investment in your professional development; and paid time off to enjoy all that comes with living in beautiful Garfield County!

The cozy town of Silt is near the middle of Garfield County along I-70, and is close to three unique and beautiful state parks: Harvey Gap, Rifle Falls, and Rifle Gap; and just minutes from the White River National Forest.

Garfield County, Colorado is a jewel within the Rocky Mountains. The Roaring Fork River winds its way through Carbondale until it meets the Colorado River in Glenwood Springs. Examples of Core Role Responsibilities


Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities for an assigned location; recommends within District policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; recommends and administers policies and procedures.

Participates in the development, administration, and oversight of the local library budget; determines funding needed for staffing, programming, equipment, collection materials, and supplies; ensures compliance with budgeted funding.

Participates in the selection of, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel; works with employees to correct deficiencies; recommends and implements discipline and termination procedures.

Develops methods to improve and continuously monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of assigned programs, service delivery methods, and procedures; assesses and monitors workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identifies opportunities and makes recommendations for improvements to programs, services, and work processes.

Conducts community needs assessments to identify needs of target audiences; designs, plans, delivers, and evaluates library programming and services; researches and contracts with performers to implement special classes and events; purchases supplies; encourages public reading, viewing, and listening skills; promotes the use of library facilities and materials.

Ensures the safety and well-being of patrons within the building; handles emergency situations and upholds the Library Code of Conduct.

Education and Experience

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. The following education and experience is required:

Relevant bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of four (4) years of education and experience, and;

Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible library experience, of which at least two (2) years should be in a lead, supervisory, or management capacity.

Additionally, the following is preferred:


Master of Library Science degree (MLS), Master of Library Information Science (MLIS), or other relevant master's degree.

Licenses and Certifications

Possession of a valid Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
