Job Summary

The Arapahoe Community College Library & Learning Commons exists to provide innovative technology, unrestricted access to information, and the instructional resources necessary to enlighten and empower Arapahoe Community College’s students, staff, and community to achieve their educational, professional, and personal goals. The Library & Learning Commons serves both in-person and online learners at all ACC campuses and high school partner locations and serves as the physical and virtual hub of learning for the College.

This position assists with library reference and information literacy services and will have primary responsibility for library reference services and information literacy instruction at ACC. The Reference Librarian will be responsible for managing the Library’s interlibrary loan services, periodicals collection and virtual chat service. They will also assist library staff with collection development and performing assessment for continual student improvement. This position will be required to work evenings and Saturdays, totaling 30 hours per week, and may be required to work at any ACC campus location.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic professional who will contribute fresh ideas and proven strategies for providing stellar reference and instruction services. In addition to working regular shifts at the reference desk, this person will stay current on best practices and library trends, participate in library strategic planning, market our resources and services through outreach, participate in campus-wide events, collaborate with faculty and staff on projects, and proactively contribute to our team with a can-do attitude.

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • One year of experience providing in person and virtual reference services.
  • One year of experience delivering information literacy classroom instruction.
  • Knowledge of web-based applications and online library systems (ILS) such as OCLC.
  • Demonstrated commitment working with and supporting students from historically marginalized communities (people of color, LGBTQ+ community members, veterans, first generation graduates, people with disabilities, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience providing reference services in a college or university.
  • Experience with creating and editing video tutorials.
  • Experience with Springshare products (LibGuides, LibCal, LibAnswers).

Physical & Cognitive Demands

The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.

  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Advertised Salary Range

Salary range for this position is $41,518 to $46,500 (at 0.75 FTE), commensurate with education and experience. AP 3-45 provides information regarding salary placement and adjustments. This is a 0.75 FTE, FLSA-exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
